with a warm personality and a tail that wags with every happy moment. Tanner has a tan and white coat that blends the warm tones of a Labrador with the solid coloring of a German Shepherd. He’s a medium-to-large frame, sturdy and well-proportioned, with the alert, intelligent eyes and floppy ears typical of the Sheprador. His coat is a double-layered, water-resistant type that sheds moderately, so regular brushing will keep him looking and feeling his best. Inherited from both parent breeds, Tanner is affectionate, loyal, and energetic. He loves human companionship and enjoys playing with family members, especially children, when properly socialized. He’s intelligent and quick to learn, making him a responsive trainee, but also has a playful, sometimes boisterous side that thrives on mental and physical stimulation. While he’s generally friendly with other dogs, his GSD side means he can be protective and alert, so early socialization is key. Tanner is a puppy who has puppy energy who needs daily walks, runs, and interactive play to stay happy and healthyT. He will enjoy fetch, agility games, and exploring fenced yards. Without enough exercise, he may become restless or anxious. Early and consistent training will help him balance his Labrador-like sociability with his German Shepherd’s protective instincts. He responds well to positive reinforcement and is eager to please, but may need firm, patient guidance to manage his energy and focus. Moderate shedding means regular brushing during peak seasons. His eyes and nails should be checked and maintained as needed. A healthy diet and regular vet check-ups are important to support his active lifestyle and overall health. Tanner is best suited for active families who can provide daily exercise, mental challenges, and plenty of affection. He’s a great companion for homes with yards, but can adapt to apartment living with sufficient outdoor time. Tanner is a charming, energetic, and loving Sheprador who will bring warmth, loyalty, and lots of fun into your home — as long as you meet his exercise and socialization needs. New Beginnings Shepherd Rescue is a volunteer-based rescue, we work very hard to help as many adoptable GSDs as possible. Most of our dogs come from high kill shelters across the country, so sadly we do not have any background information on them.....and we work very hard to get to know each and every dog brought into our program in need of a new beginning in their lives. We do not take animals with aggression problems (some may not like other dogs, cats, or may require older kids as opposed to younger children, but we will let you know everything that we know) most of these beautiful dogs have been faithful and loving family pets for their entire lives, yet still have lost their homes and families through no fault of their own. If you are interested in opening your heart and home to one of these amazing dogs please email MurphyNewBeginningsRescue and put Request for Adoption Application in the subject line. If you don't hear from us in 3 days, please send us a gentle reminder and one of us will get right on it. Please indicate the dog you are interested in meeting, where it says preference on the application! You may also email julienewbeginningsrescue , we are always happy to answer any questions you may have. If you give them your heart, they will give you theirs.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
