Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Meet MADLoveChase This sweet senior guy is going to absolutely light up his forever family’s life. When Chase first arrived, he was recovering from a

mild upper respiratory infection and an ear infection, so he wasn’t feeling his best. As he’s started feeling better with medication, we’ve gotten to watch more and more of his personality shine through. Every day he seems happier, more playful, and more comfortable showing us exactly who he is. First things first… Chase is absolutely obsessed with BALL. Tennis balls, rubber balls, squeaky balls—if it’s round and can be thrown, Chase is all in. He’ll entertain himself with other toys, but nothing compares to his beloved ball. Despite being a senior, Chase is still impressively athletic. He loves running, playing fetch, and spending time with his foster dog siblings. One of our favorite things about Chase is that he’s the perfect balance of active and relaxed. Outside? Adventure buddy. Inside? Professional couch napper. At only about 55 pounds, he’s a surprisingly compact little Mal who fits comfortably into most homes. His travel kennel is only 36", but at home he appreciates a roomy 42–48" kennel with an orthopedic bed where he can stretch out like the distinguished gentleman he is. Chase is very dog-friendly, and we truly think he would thrive as an addition to an existing dog family rather than as an only dog. He seems happiest and most secure with canine companions around. He also absolutely loves: Car rides Pup cup runs Meeting new people Tagging along for errands If there’s an opportunity to hop in the car and go somewhere with his person, Chase is ready to be your co-pilot. Chase already has some training under his belt that we’re currently refreshing. He’s eager to please, loves learning, and would make an excellent “beginner Malinois” for someone interested in the breed but not looking for the intensity of puppy behaviors or a very high-drive dog. He’s active when it’s time to play—but perfectly content to settle down and relax at home. Chase could thrive in a home with children ages 5+ who understand respectful interactions and boundaries. He previously lived with children and has shown very positive reactions to kids we’ve encountered in public. And now… the cat update Chase originally assumed the resident cats were going to become his new best friends. The cats had other opinions. After receiving a few well-earned swats from tiny clawed supervisors, Chase has decided cats may not actually be that exciting after all He currently lives successfully with four indoor cats with very different personalities, but we still recommend supervision and caution—especially around shy, skittish, or fast-moving cats. Barn cats remain a bit too tempting, and he may still want to chase. He is not a dog we would leave unsupervised with cats. The one management note for Chase is around food. We recommend feeding separately and avoiding high-value chews around other animals and children. Chase likes his meals to himself and may communicate that preference. We wouldn’t describe him as a serious resource guarder—just an older gentleman who appreciates personal snack boundaries. Chase is a sweet, quiet, affectionate, goofy boy who wants nothing more than: A ball to chase A car ride with his favorite human A couch to nap on Animal siblings to play with A family to love If you’re looking for a loyal companion with plenty of life left to live—but without the chaos of puppyhood—Chase may just be your perfect match. These seniors deserve the best after all! Chase, located in CA - almost 8 yr old senior with still a LOT to give! We cannot wait to hear all about your new adventures, sweet boy! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
