iful, smart independent 8-year-old, 54 lb, orange and white spayed female who is full of energy. She loves attention and lovin. In addition, Dottie loves outdoor adventures and enjoys scanning the woods for birds and other critters. Because she has a high prey drive and is also very food driven, she can be competitive and does not like to lose. As a matter of fact, when food is involved, she gets nervous and demanding. Her adopter needs to understand that her doggie nips are not an attempt to bite, but rather to seek attention. Dottie wants to be first; losing to other dogs is not in her barkcabulary. Due to her competitiveness, Dottie MUST be the only dog. Also, only homes with older considerate children will be considered. To keep this sweet girl out of trouble, lots of enrichment is recommended. Given the chance and proper training, Dottie would excel in dog sports such as agility and barn hunt. Due to her keen sense pf smell, scent games in the house and in the backyard would be the perfect activity to keep her mind and body busy in addition to giving Dottie lots of opportunities to win the day! In true Brittany fashion, Dottie pulls and rushes on a leash. Additional leash training is in order. A fenced yard is required for Dottie. She loves to run for the fun of it. Precious Dottie is housetrained and even though she is crate trained, she is trusted alone in the house; however, she is a well accomplished counter surfer and if not locked, will slide open doors with her nose. At her previous foster she wore and responded to an e collar for recall, but her recall was not good without it. Her nose simply gets the best of her! Even though Dottie can be super active and instinctive, and at times, a “handful,” she pays you back with lots of love and affection. She has been well loved and will be a fabulous dog for the right home. Below is Dottie’s furever home wishlist: A home full of love with lots of hugs, snuggles, patience and understanding An active home with outdoor adventures A spacious fenced back yard No fursiblings (canine or otherwise) Dottie would also appreciate the following (though not required) Agility Scent activities Dottie's adoption fee is $350 to offset vetting costs. She is currently located in North Georgia, but can be transported up to 1400 miles to an approved adopter. (with the adopter being responsible for the last up to 100 miles). If you interested in giving Dottie her furever home, please reach out to Suzanne Horsley ztasuzannegmail OR Debbie Tuthill agilitybritsgmail

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
