6/1/2026 Foster Feedback: Joe attended two adoption events over the weekend and did an amazing job! He was wonderful with adults and kiddos of all ages, happily soaking up all the attention he could get. The only time he seemed a little nervous was in the parking lot, where the noise from passing cars was a bit overwhelming for him.
He was around dogs of all sizes during the events and showed no reaction to any of them. Joe was content to focus on meeting new people and enjoying all the pets and affection.
At home, Joe enjoys spending time in the backyard and going for short, leisurely walks. He will occasionally pull on leash, but only when he's trying to keep up with my spouse and our resident dogs walking ahead of us. When it's just Joe and me, he walks very nicely without pulling. Because Joe is a senior and a little overweight, it's important not to overdo exercise, especially during hot weather. Like many Cocker Spaniels, he could overheat easily.
Joe is also making progress with house training. Accidents are becoming less frequent, and many mornings,or even after I've been gone for up to six hour, his belly band remains completely dry.
Joe is ready to find a loving family to spend his golden years with. He has so much love to give and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a sweet, easygoing best friend.
5/28/2026 Foster Feedback: We’ve had Joe Cocker for almost a month now, and he continues to be an incredibly sweet and gentle house guest. As he’s gotten more comfortable, we’ve learned more about his personality and daily habits.
A few things to know about Joe:
His goofy personality is starting to shine through more every day. While he’s mostly been indifferent to my dogs, over the last few days he’s shown some brief playful moments with my small male dog. He’s dog-friendly overall but would also likely do just fine as an only dog.
Joe initially struggled with some separation anxiety and would howl when left alone, but this has already improved a lot as he’s settled in. He’s becoming more independent and confident in the home.
Joe is not fully potty trained and does best with frequent potty breaks to avoid accidents indoors. Belly bands have been very helpful.
He’s not much of a couch or bed dog. He occasionally joins us on the furniture but usually prefers to be close by on the ground in a dog bed.
Joe can be a little inconsistent with food and treats. He doesn’t seem to follow a strict eating routine and may vary in what or how much he wants to eat from day to day. Offering a few options throughout the day has worked best for him.
He rides wonderfully in the car and settles in nicely.
Joe walks fairly well on leash overall, though he may pull when excited, so a harness is recommended.
Joe easily goes into his kennel when needed and settles nicely. At first we kenneled him when leaving the house, but now that he’s become more comfortable and trustworthy in our home, we no longer need to kennel him when we leave.
Every night he chooses to sleep in his kennel with the door left open. His kennel is in my bedroom, and he seems to find it comforting and safe.
He has shown mild curiosity toward small plants or trinkets on lower shelves, but he responds well when redirected and listens nicely to “leave it.”
Joe can sometimes try to dart out the door when someone is leaving or arriving, so extra care around open doors is important.
Joe is extremely gentle with people, including my five-year-old niece. He does occasionally get excited and may jump up or accidentally bump into people because he lacks a little spatial awareness, so supervision around small children is recommended.
He will occasionally bark at unfamiliar noises but is not overly vocal.
Overall, Joe is a very sweet, happy boy who continues to blossom as he gains confidence and routine. He would thrive in a patient, loving home willing to continue helping him build consistency and confidence
5/15/2026 Foster Feedback: Joe Cocker is an incredibly sweet senior who has been such a gentle and loving boy. He is friendly with new people and other dogs, and has a very calm demeanor overall. As he’s settled in, we’ve started to see his playful side come out more and more. He loves stuffies, treats, and simply being close to his people. He’s very gentle with his toys and happiest when relaxing near you.
Joe rides calmly in the car and was a champ at his vet appointments!
Joe has gone through a lot of big changes recently, so he will need a patient adopter who understands that it may take him time to fully decompress and adjust in a new home. When he first arrived, he paced quite a bit and showed signs of anxiety, but after a few days he began to settle and become more comfortable.
He does have some separation anxiety and seems like he likely spent most of his life always with his person. Because of this, we would love to see him go to a home where someone is around often and can help him continue building confidence and routine.
Joe has had some accidents indoors, so consistent potty breaks are key. He currently wears a belly band overnight just in case. He can also be a bit inconsistent with eating, but he’s improving with a regular routine and may simply be used to free feeding.
Joe is such a loving, gentle soul who just needs patience, understanding, and time to feel safe. In return, he will make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a sweet, calm dog who wants nothing more than to be loved and near his people!
** Joe Cocker is Lyme positive. This is a tick-borne illness, and he is currently being treated with Doxycycline.
