Please visit aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply. Meet Kalina Kalina's story started almost two years ago when she walked into our lives—literally. We had stopped for coffee when a very pregnant stray dog approached us. After confirming she didn't belong to anyone, we brought her home. A few weeks later, she gave birth to a beautiful litter of puppies. We were fortunate enough to find loving homes for every one of them. Now it's Kalina's turn. Kalina is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever known. She has a way of looking at you with an unmistakable "I love you" stare that melts your heart. She is house-trained, well-behaved, and happiest when she's by your side. Whether it's a quick errand or an overnight road trip, Kalina is always ready to go along for the adventure. She loves to play fetch and will happily chase a ball, leaping and twirling through the air to catch it. She has a playful spirit and a joyful personality that shines through every day. Like any dog, she has a few quirks. Food left unattended is considered fair game in Kalina's world, so you'll want to keep snacks out of reach. She is also very protective of her home and property. While she can be reactive toward other dogs, she is incredibly friendly with people when out in public. Because of this, she would do best as the only dog in the household, though she may potentially accept a puppy if introduced while it's very young. We are unsure of her history, but she carries a scar above her right eye, and some of her front teeth are broken. Neither has diminished her loving nature or her zest for life. If anything, they've only made her story more remarkable. Kalina deserves a home where she can be someone's loyal companion, get plenty of attention, and enjoy all the adventures she loves. If you're looking for a devoted best friend who will love you with her whole heart, Kalina may be the perfect match. Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
