o be around 10 years old, but don't let her age fool you - she is a tiny girl with a big personality! Rosie is the perfect mix of a lap dog and walking buddy and would be a wonderful companion for a retired person or couple. She charms everyone she meets with her bubbly personality, with just a sprinkle of sass. She currently weighs about 5.5lbs. Rosie was found as a stray and brought to a local animal shelter. No one came forward to claim her, so we were more than happy to have her come to us. She has been thriving in foster care and can't wait to find her fur-ever home! Rosie is a sweet little girl who is impossible not to love. She is affectionate, playful, confident, and oh-so cute. She's the type of dog who gets mistaken for a stuffed animal! She is big on cuddles and also loves her daily walks. She would love a family that wants a dog to bring everywhere and be part of whatever the day brings. She loves car rides and hops right into her bed in the car to venture into town. Rosie has done great living with other small/medium dogs and could be a wonderful addition to a home with other easygoing pups. She also wouldn't mind being your one and only - more attention for her! We haven't seen Rosie with cats, but suspect she would do well with cats based on her size and friendly personality. Rosie has been doing well living with a gentle kid and could be a wonderful addition to a family with respectful, dog-savvy kids. Rosie is pretty much housetrained, but likely will have some accidents while she is adjusting to a new home and routine. She does well being left alone with the other dogs in the home, and mostly hangs out in her bed. She has never been truly alone, so she would need to slowly be acclimated to that if you don't have other dogs. Rosie is used to sleeping in bed with her foster parents. She may do well living in an apartment. Rosie is non-shedding, and her fur type requires routine professional grooming to keep it from getting matted. Her new family will need to be prepared to pay for regular grooming appointments to keep her fur healthy. Being a small senior dog, Rosie will require some dental work in her new home. Please be prepared to afford that cost post-adoption. Rosie is such a wonderful little girl, and she is going to bring so much happiness to her new family. If you think that might be you, submit an application today! Rosie's adoption fee is $350. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
