er had 51 dogs living in a small trailer. Thankfully, concerned family members stepped in to help address a situation that had gotten out of control, and the number of dogs has since been significantly reduced.
Worthy Dog became involved through one of our veterinary partners. We sponsor the spay/neuter clinic that has been altering the dogs at no cost to stop the cycle and prevent the population from growing. So far, we've welcomed four dogs from the property into our rescue, and other South Carolina rescues have stepped up to help as well.
Despite coming from a dysfunctional environment, Lainey is an incredibly sweet, affectionate, and resilient little dog. Her foster mom describes her as the ultimate snuggle bug. Whether she's curled up in a lap, sitting beside her person, or perched on the back of the couch with her head resting on your shoulder, Lainey always wants to be close to the people she loves.
Like many dogs who have lived in a large group with limited resources, Lainey takes a little time to trust new people and environments. When she first arrived in foster care, she preferred to hide and observe from a safe spot. Once she realized she was safe, however, she quickly bonded with her foster mom and became her constant shadow. She is still cautious around strangers and the grandkids when they visit, and may retreat when visitors arrive, but her confidence continues to grow with patience and positive experiences.
Lainey is crate trained, does well with housetraining when kept on a regular schedule, and has Ok leash skills. She enjoys walks and exploring new scents, though unfamiliar people and dogs can make her nervous. When she feels unsure, she looks to her person for reassurance.
Because of her background, Lainey has some food guarding behaviors around other dogs. She is currently fed separately and does very well with this management. We believe much of this behavior stems from having to compete for resources in her previous environment. She has made great progress in foster care, but her adopters should be prepared to continue managing mealtimes and helping her learn that food is plentiful and secure.
Lainey gets along with other dogs overall and is a more confident member of the pack in the home. She would likely do best with adopters who can provide clear boundaries and structure while continuing to build her confidence.
Beneath her cautious exterior is a loving, loyal companion who wants nothing more than to be close to her people. With patience, consistency, and understanding, Lainey will reward her forever family with endless affection and devotion.
❤️ If you're looking for a tiny shadow, professional cuddler, and devoted best friend, Lainey may be the perfect match for you.

You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. If you think you might be interested in becoming a foster and want to learn more, please go to foster.worthydog and fill out an application.
