Description

Mutt Dogs For Adoption in Clarkston, MI, USA

Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Zeus is our 15-year-old gentleman whose past is heartbreaking, but whose future deserves to be filled with comfort, kindness, and love. Before coming into rescue

, Zeus spent months living alone in a dark basement. He rarely saw people, was only fed a couple of times a week. When Zeus was finally rescued by our friends The Karens he was in rough shape. He had a large mass growing on his scrotum, a severe urinary tract infection, and terrible ear infections We welcomed Zeus to CCRC to receive the medical attention he desperately needed. His mass was successfully removed and came back as a low-grade mast cell tumor. Zeus still has a handful of large medical concerns but right now he is comfortable and enjoying not carrying around the weight of the mass anymore. Our goal for him is no longer about putting him through more procedures, anesthesia, or surgeries. What Zeus needs now is something medicine can't provide: a home. We're looking for a special person or family who will love Zeus exactly as he is. A family that understands his best days won't be measured by medical treatments, but by soft beds, full bellies, gentle pets, sunny naps, and the comfort of knowing he belongs. Zeus doesn't need a perfect future. He just needs someone willing to make the rest of his life the best part of it. If you have room in your heart for a special senior, Zeus is waiting and transportation is available to bring this special boy to you door anywhere in the US. Let's make sure Zeus's final chapter is filled with the love he should have had all along. ❤️ .ccrcdogs We do not have a facility for you to visit. You are welcome to email ccrcdogsccrcdogs with specific questions, but please complete the online application, which can be found at .ccrcdogs, to secure your position in line for one of our dogs. You can also find a description of our process on that same page. Puppies will not be available to be seen until their 10-day quarantine has passed. Our adoption fees are listed on our website and cover the cost of the spay/neuter, age-appropriate shots and tests, medications to bring the dog to full health, and a free visit with one of our approved vets after adoption. Most dogs at CCRC are obtained from animal control centers so there is often very little known about their history or current habits. You can always expect to do some training, regardless of whether you adopt a dog or a puppy, including crate training, house training, and basic manners. CCRC has a variety of materials and resources to assist you with this, and we have trainers who will offer free phone/email support.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
