- Strand Hardware Store 4th Saturday, Roseville - Pet Food Express Please visit the GCGSR Rescue Page for specific address information. All of our dogs are in foster homes and not in one single kennel location. Adoption events is the best way to meet several of our dogs at once. If you need GPS, a Goofy, Playful, Sweet doggo, Lucien is your boy. Lucien is a mid to long coat boy who is between 1 ½ & 2 years old. He has a very sweet & upbeat personality and hasn’t yet met a dog he doesn’t like. Lucien currently resides with 3 German Shepherds in his foster home and while he may do well in a home as an only dog, we believe he will be happiest with a resident doggie sibling. Don’t let Lucien’s good looks and absolute cuteness fool you – this boy has been watching and learning from the resident gsd’s. As a result, he has developed a great bark & is gaining watchdog instincts. While Lucien has watched and learned good behavior, he can also be an opportunistic “watcher”. If you walk away, even momentarily from your food, he will take the opportunity to swoop in “help himself”. For the record, he has denied these accusations, taken the 5th & pointed his nose towards the other dogs in the house. The ring camera video however tells the true story of the “taco toss up”. While Lucien loves to play with his foster brothers, he gives equal time to give love to his foster family in addition to every person he meets. He intuitively works the room, moving from one person to the next until everyone has had their moment of Lucien love. Lucien has a gentle mouth when taking treats and has mastered sit and down. He didn’t appear to have prior leash experience but gets better every day and walks well with the other resident dogs on their daily pack walk. We recently learned that Lucien was running around as a stray down by the river for weeks, but Sac Animal Control was unable to secure him. Local expert dog trapper DeAnn Wren assisted by Aimee Staats were able to lure Lucien into their trap and he was brought to a local shelter. Once in the care of GCGSR, DeAnn, Aimee & Lucien had an emotional love filled reunion with Lucien going back and forth between them showering both with love for saving him. This wonderful ball of floof and love won’t last long so come out and meet him today. Understanding Dog Levels Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires. Go to our home page for an explanation of the Dog Rating Levels. Additional Adoption Information For more information and to see when this dog will be attending an Adoption Day, please see our Dogs page on our main website. (Adoption Process) We operate within a reasonable driving distance from the Greater Sacramento area, the Central Valley down to Merced, and Lake Tahoe. A reasonable driving distance is determined by where one of our volunteers is willing to drive within our areas of service. That means we don't adopt out of our area, to Southern California, or out of state. Puppy Requirements We have special Requirements for Adopting a Puppy and a separate Puppy Questionnaire that must be completed on puppies. Please see our Requirements for Adopting a Puppy or email us at infogcgsr for more information. Thank you for visiting!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
