ly. I’m glad to be here and I am enjoying my time in a nice quiet foster home while I wait to meet my new people. Plan to come meet me soon and see if I am your new furry family member! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I get along very well with the mellow older dog in my foster home. We follow each other around and I’m affectionate with him, too. I also met a couple of dogs at Mostly Mutts before going into my foster home and though I didn’t play with them, I also didn’t show any aggression. So, if you have a calmer-natured sweet dog at home already like me, let’s meet! / I am doing well with the kitty in my foster home and even allow her to rub her head on me. Of course, all cats are different, so I'm not sure how I would do with another kitty. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may accidentally bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I was pretty shut down when I first arrived at the shelter, but I’m slowly gaining trust and confidence every day. I’m a gentle, sweet, calm, and elegant girl who likes to take a little time getting to know new people. I’ve made wonderful progress in my foster home and after only a week, I now seek affection, follow my foster around the house, and am becoming much more comfortable in my surroundings. I generally only bark if my foster leaves the house with the other dog and I am left behind. I would do best with a family that will give me the time and patience I need to adjust and blossom. / Energy level: Currently 3-5, but it could increase a little bit more as I become even more comfortable in my new home. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m not sure if I know any commands yet, but Mostly Mutts offers free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so let’s do some training together. / I’m not a fan of the crate but will go into it when the other dog in the home is in his crate near mine. At nighttime I happily sleep on a doggie bed by my foster’s bed. / I have very good potty manners in my foster home and will quietly go to the door when I need to potty, so you do have to watch when I head that way as I don’t bark to alert you. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I absolutely love soft blankets and enjoy snuggling up in them whenever I can. I also seem to enjoy watching TV, especially the DogTV programs my foster puts on for me. Relaxing and sunbathing are also enjoyable and as I’ve become more comfortable. I’ve even started showing interest in stuffed toys and am beginning to discover how much fun they can be! / I’m not a fan of loud noises, though my foster is helping me gradually get used to things like vacuum and weed eater sounds. I also don’t like being rushed into new situations or relationships and prefer a little time to feel comfortable and build trust. And like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I have tartar on my teeth, so my adoptive family should consult with their vet regarding a dental cleaning in the near future. With a little patience, kindness and love, I look forward to being your wonderful companion! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
