eds someone willing to give him a chance. This handsome Dutch Shepherd is athletic, intelligent, and full of drive. He loves to play tug, works enthusiastically for food, and already knows some basic obedience. With continued training and structure, there's no limit to what this boy can accomplish. But before he can start his next chapter, Striker needs a MAD foster or adopter ASAP. Striker came to us after his elderly owner experienced significant hardship and could no longer care for him. Through no fault of his own, he lost the only home he knew. Now he's waiting, wondering who's going to choose him next. During his evaluation, Striker impressed everyone. He showed excellent engagement with people, walked nicely on leash, displayed no resource guarding, and remained calm and neutral around small dogs in nearby kennels. He's eager to connect with his person and is ready to thrive with someone who enjoys an active lifestyle. Every day Striker waits is another day he spends without a home of his own. Fostering saves lives—it gives dogs like Striker a safe place to land while they wait for their forever family. And if you've been looking for an incredible adventure partner, he may just be the teammate you've been waiting for. Can you foster? Ready to adopt? Please apply today or share this post. Sometimes the right person is only one share away. Let's help Striker score the forever home he deserves. All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and 6 month subscription. If you are interested in adopting this pet please complete an application at this link petstablished/adoption_form/24689/generic. *********************************************************************** We are an official 501c3 organization that does not have a physical location. Our home address is in Michigan, however, the majority of our dogs are not located in Michigan. The physical location of each dog is posted with the name of the pet or in the title area. If you are within 4 hours of the pet, please be prepared to pick the pet up. We do provide transport assistance up to 350 miles. The applicant must drive the remainder of the distance of the transport. The basic information that we have available is in our posting, but sometimes fosters will post updates on the MAD Rescue Facebook page as well, .facebook/groups/malinoisanddutchshepherdrescueinc. If you would like to further inquire on this animal, please fill out this application. Applications that are completed in our process and being considered as a match will speak to the foster home to gain more information about our adoptable dog. If you have questions about this pet please contact us at infoMADrescueinc. You may also call our toll free number at 844-MAD-RESQ or 844-623-7377. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
