tures, and actual, literal smiles? Look no further! Meet Andie Elise! She is a three-year-old terrier mix, that weighs about 42 pounds. This happy-go-lucky girl is ready to find her forever family—emphasis on the forever. She isn't just looking for a pit stop; she is looking for a committed home to love and cherish her for the rest of her days. In return, she promises to be the best companion you’ve ever had. Andie is incredibly friendly, spunky, and smart. She absolutely loves everyone she comes into contact with—people and dogs alike! Her foster family raves about her manners. She is fully house-trained and already knows her basic commands. Every time you walk through the door, she gets ECSTATIC to see you and will even give you a big, beautiful smile to prove it. Andie loves going for short walks and is an absolute fanatic for car rides. But once the activity is over? She is a professional snuggle bug. Andie is a people-oriented girl who thrives on being around her humans so she would love to find a forever home where she can be with her human family the majority of the time and have a chill laid back furry champion to play with. Andie also does wonderfully in her crate if her family is out for the day. More than anything, she needs a family that understands adoption is a lifelong promise. If you are ready to commit to taking care of this sweet, smiling girl through all of life's chapters, she is ready to fill your world with pure joy. Ready to make her a permanent part of your heart? Contact Adopt A Pit and fill out an application today to arrange a meet-and-greet! All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and if over 6 months of age, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative in their foster home. We require an approved application to meet any of our dogs. We do not have a shelter location and will not arrange a meeting without an approved application. We strive to make sure the bios provided for our dogs are complete and accurate; we do understand that mistakes happen, however, so if you absolutely cannot find the answer to your question in the dog's bio, you can contact us for more information. We require a home visit for each dog we adopt out, so we adopt within a 2 hour radius of Dayton, OH. If you are outside of this radius, we encourage you to contact your local rescue or shelter.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
