Description

Australian Shepherd Dogs For Adoption in Kennesaw, GA, USA

Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd. A FUN & HANDSOME BOY: Approx. 3 years old / Approx. 16 lbs. Hi, my name is Rick! I came to Mostly Mutts when my family’s circumstances changed, and

they could no longer keep me. I arrived with another dog friend who has already found a wonderful home, and I’m hoping my turn comes very soon! In the meantime, I’m enjoying life in a fantastic foster home where I’m getting lots of love, activity and care. If my foster family is any indication, I think there’s a pretty amazing forever home waiting just for me! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I got along great with the dog I came in with, and my former family reported that I did well with the dogs I met while I was with them. I really think I’d like a dog friend in my new home to play and pal around with, so if you have a dog at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet while with Mostly Mutts, but my former owner reported that I did well with the kids I met while I was with them, though I don’t recall their ages, so if you have kids, let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over or that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a friendly, active guy with a fun, lively personality! Shelter life was stressful for me, so I was pretty barky there, but once I settled into my foster home, I showed everyone what a well-mannered boy I really am. I’m doing great in a home environment and enjoying all the attention and routine. I also did very well for my bath and brushing, showing that I’m happy to cooperate. I’m a fun-loving companion who’s ready to bring lots of joy and energy to my forever family. / Energy level: 6-8, typical of my breed, so I’d like a family that will be active with me. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I know the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, and ‘leave it’ commands so far. Mostly Mutts offers free lifetime training classes for all their adopted dogs, so let’s continue my training together. / I sleep well in my crate at night and like going in and out of it some during the day – it’s my comfy place and I’d like one in my new home. / I had accidents when I was at the shelter but am doing well in my foster home after some initial marking and a couple of accidents early on. They keep me on a good potty schedule and I also learned to use the doggie door there in 1 day. My former family reported that I was potty trained with them. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love playing, being active, and spending time with my people. I’m an affectionate guy who enjoys attention and will happily stop for a short cuddle session before I’m ready for my next adventure. I also love my food - so much so that I tend to eat a little too fast! / I can’t think of any dislikes, though like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I just had a dental cleaning, so my mouth is fresh again - and not the talking-back kind of fresh! I’m a wonderful dog looking for a wonderful furever home with a family that will be active and have fun with me. My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
