she suddenly lost the ability to walk. She went from a completely normal and mobile dog one day, to losing all feeling in her back end overnight. Instead of receiving love and support from her family, they called animal control and requested they come pick her up to euthanize. Fortunately, the shelter did not do that, and instead requested a rescue step in to try and save Doll's life. We immediately took her to a specialist vet for diagnostics - x-rays, bloodwork, MRI, neuro assessment. Surprisingly, everything came back clear, leaving us without answers on why she suddenly lost mobility. We decided to monitor her for a few months to see if her condition changed, and keep a close eye on her quality of life. We're happy to report that Doll has adjusted well to her new lifestyle, lives a joyful and full life, and is finally ready to begin her search for a special forever family! Doll is 2 years old and weighs 38 lbs. She is quite thin, but our vet believes this is due to muscle loss in her hind quarters. She doesn't have a huge appetite but eats as much high-quality food as we can get into her every day! Doll gets exercise by zooming in her custom wheelchair, which will go with her when she's adopted. She loves running around the yard and creek in her wheels! She also enjoys walks in her wheelchair or in her stroller when she's feeling lazy. Inside, she's able to scoot herself around the lower level of the home, and naps on orthopedic dog beds or even area rugs. She loves toys and will happily play with them on her own inside, too. Doll lives with several small dogs and is gentle and sweet with them. She's also met a cat and was non-reactive, so she could likely live with them, too! Doll lives with older children and is great with them too, especially her best friend who is a teenage girl, who says the following about Doll: "Doll is incredibly gentle, loving, and full of joy. She doesn't let anything slow her down. So she is looking for her furever home. If you're ready to open your heart to an amazing, special girl, Doll is waiting to meet you!" Care-wise, Doll does require more than a normally-abled dog, but her needs are not difficult! Her main need is bladder expression about 4 times a day. Doll's bladder is very easy to express when she's supported by her wheelchair, and takes no more than 30 seconds once you've perfected it. She does NOT leak urine inside and doesn't require a diaper! She can go #2 on her own and can tell you when it's about to happen by barking. If you miss it, she's able to scoot away and it's super easy to pick up, as the food she's on ensures her poops are nice and solid. We keep Doll's beautiful coat cut short for sanitary purposes, as it's much easier to keep her hind end clean with a shorter cut. She should be wiped down with wipes once or twice a day to prevent UTIs, though she's not had any since she's been with us! As a poodle, Doll is all skinny limbs, making it actually very easy to pick up all 38 lbs of her. Her family should be comfortable lifting her in and out of her wheelchair/stroller! Doll is a very special girl who deserves a family who embraces everything about her. Her foster family has committed so much time and energy to getting her to where she is now - happy, joyful, and full of life. Now, it's time for her forever family to reap the rewards of sharing their life with Doll! To adopt Doll, please apply on our website! .nirvanaanimalrescue/adoption-application Doll's adoption fee is $350, which covers her vaccines, microchip, and monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Doll is spayed. Please note we cannot guarantee the age or breed of any of our dogs. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training. PA Kennel License #18366

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
