Boxer Dogs For Adoption in Stanwood, WA, USA

Dog Breed: Boxer (short coat). Hi my name is Memphis! I’m around 4 years old and was found wandering around the streets in Washington state. I am recently neutered, current on my vaccines, a

nd I’m being fostered in Ravensdale, WA. I spent about a month at the Whatcom Humane Society and the staff there were great. I had a lot of fun with them, and they helped me recover after my neuter surgery. Since then, I’ve gotten to meet new dogs, new people, and even some kids while in foster care. I love meeting new people as long as they approach me with love and aren’t wearing any big scary hats. I walk pretty good on a leash and am always up to doing whatever you wanna do! I’ll follow you just about everywhere, especially since I don’t really like to be alone, at least not in a car. At home, I tend to complain a little in my kennel but then give up and decide to take a nap. Sometimes I’ll just go into another room and lie down by myself too. I’m not a big barker or troublemaker though; mostly, I just like to be where you are and see what you’re doing. I’m a pretty picky eater and am not really food motivated, although I have checked things out on the counter a few times but have never taken anything. I’m just really curious about everything! Unfortunately, I want to chase the family cat, so it’s probably best that my forever family doesn’t have a cat or any other small animals. I do really good with most other dogs though, especially females. I really love my foster fur-sister, so I’m keeping my paws crossed for a home with a fur-sister for me. My hormones are still adjusting to my neuter, so I am still working through some mild dominant behaviors like humping or marking areas when human males are present. I can’t help it though, not until my hormones level out. My foster moms think it’s more silly than anything but they have me wear a belly band to keep the marking to a minimum. Besides those few things, I’m a pretty chill, playful, and goofy guy who has just learned the world is bigger than I thought. So, I hope I get a family who can be patient with me, who will work with me and my mild quirks, and help me learn all of the things I need to know to be the best version of myself possible. I also hope my forever family likes to have fun and go for a lot of walks! My foster moms say I’m pretty smart too! I already know, sit, down, and wait; and I’m kennel and dog-door trained. Also, as I mentioned, I’m pretty good on a leash as well. Long story short, my foster moms say I’m an all-around good boy with a few quirks who’s just waiting patiently for the perfect family to come along and take me home forever. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
