Foster Home Feedback 7/3/26 Foster Feedback: It's been a week since Erling joined our family. He's still doing great and is a fun and sweet puppy. He sleeps well in his kennel, and loves playing with my girl. They wrestle and run endless zoomies in the yard. Erling is a typical lab puppy, he's happy and bouncy. He loves to be on all things including his people. So this should be considered for older or really young people. His ideal home would be one that is active for walks and play time, and for one that wants a pup by their side at all times of the day. 6/30/26 Foster Feedback: Erling is just a darn good pup. We have been calling him Shadow as he is just everywhere we are. If you are brushing your teeth, laying on you feet, washing dishes, he’ll be laying on your feet. He loves to sit on you or by you. He’s just the best little buddy that likes to stay really close. Erling has been doing fantastic in his kennel at night, but we also have pretty active days with a walk in the morning, play time through day and night and a night walk. He is quiet and does great. Erling just loves the cats and wants to play with them but redirects so well when I call him off to give them space. Erling (Shadow), is really smart pup. He would be so fun to take to training classes and teach him all the great things as he catches on super fast. 6/29/26 Foster Feedback: Day 2: we already made so much progress with the cats. Erling responds immediately when he wants to approach them with curiosity. Erlling is a confident little guy and loves water, walks and is just a persons shadow. He will make a great best friend. 6/28/26 Foster Feedback: Erling is a lovely, sweet and very playful puppy. He takes cues from my snarky girls quite well and can entertain himself with toys inside and out for quite a while. Erling walks great on a leash and hasn't had any reactivity at all to little scooters flying by. He sniffed and was interested in the cats, and did chase once when surprised but not in an aggressive or prey focused way, more of a playful, puppy curiosity way. I think Erling is going to make a great forever friend for some lucky person or family. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: .4luvofdog

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
