Dachshund Dogs For Adoption in Kennesaw, GA, USA

Dog Breed: Dachshund. A SWEET & LOVING LADY: Approx. 10 years old / Approx. 13 lbs. Hi I’m Sofia! I came to Mostly Mutts when I found myself in need of a good home! Thankfully, the

y took me in, and I am soaking up all the love and attention from the volunteers here and I heard them say that I’m now ready to find a family of my very own. I think that is the best news ever! Plan to come meet me soon and see if I am your new furry family member! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met another dog while out on a day trip to a volunteer’s home for a few hours and we coexisted together well, so if you have a dog that sounds like this, let’s meet! / I also met a kitty while on that day trip and I simply ignored it. All cats are different, so I'm not sure how I would do with another kitty. / I met gentle 5- and 8-year-olds at the shelter and really liked them, so if you have gentle kids like this, let’s meet and best no toddlers that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a friendly, sweet, and happy girl with a wonderful personality and a tail that never seems to stop wagging! I’m very affectionate and had everyone smiling when I emerged from a blanket for a little "doggy unraveling." I happily trotted into the Paw Spa, did great for my bath, and showed everyone just how calm and cooperative I can be. I may let out a little bark when I’d like some attention - as if to say, "hey, don’t forget about me!" I ride well in the car, so you can take me with you and if you’re looking for a cheerful, loving companion with a delightful spirit, I just might be your girl! / Energy level: 3-5. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the ‘come’ command and I look forward to learning even more. Let's continue my training together with the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers for all their adopted dogs. / I’m doing well in my little room at the shelter. / My potty manners have been good on the shelter schedule with only a few accidents. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love belly rubs, lap time, and curling up in a cozy blanket - or even better, snuggled underneath one! I also like going out and enjoying life, whether that means sniffing around in the yard, exploring with you or simply rolling around in the grass. Sharing those happy moments with my family will make life even sweeter. / I can’t think of any dislikes, though like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I’m blind in my right eye, but see well out of my left eye. I have moderate tartar on my teeth, so my adoptive family should consult with their vet and consider a dental cleaning in the future. I’m on an inexpensive over-the-counter Cosequin joint supplement which is good for all senior dogs. Since I'm a Dachshund, I naturally have a long back which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy. If you’re looking for a wonderful doggie friend to share your home with and love furever, I could be the one! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
