At just 7 - 8 months old and around 32 pounds, Loki somehow skipped straight to the “old soul in a young dog’s body” phase. Calm, gentle, and wonderfully easygoing, this sweet boy has been winning people over everywhere he goes.
Loki wandered up to a home one day hungry, thirsty, dehydrated, and very thin. It appeared he had been surviving on his own for several days or longer. Once safe, he spent his first few days catching up on sleep and enjoying small meals throughout the day. After a week with his finder, he moved to his current foster home in North Carolina while we search for the perfect rescue placement and forever family.
Despite an uncertain start, Loki has remained incredibly loving, trusting, and eager to be part of a family. His foster describes him as affectionate, submissive, and surprisingly laid back for his age.
One of the sweetest parts of fostering Loki has been watching him learn how to just be a puppy.
He’s gaining confidence every day and discovering that toys, playtime, and affection are pretty great. While naturally calm, he has started enjoying short bursts of play with his foster siblings. His favorite playmate is Bo, the young yellow Lab, who has been teaching him the important puppy skills of wrestling and running.
Loki has done beautifully with every dog he has met and currently lives peacefully with four dogs ranging from 12 to 80 pounds. He truly enjoys canine company and takes cues from other dogs. Because of this, he can become interested in chasing if another dog does, and while he’s curious about cats, that curiosity turns into chasing so a cat-free home will be the best fit.
He loves people and has been wonderful with children. Loki walks nicely on leash and enjoys car rides once you help him into the car (jumping in independently is still on his to-do list).
Loki is currently working on crate training and house training and is making great progress. He sleeps in his crate at night and when unsupervised and will bark to let you know when he needs to go outside.
His favorite things? Benebone chews, treats of any kind, naps, and being close to his people. He enjoys relaxing in the yard but prefers company over solo outdoor time unless he’s sunbathing with access back inside. He’s not the type who wants to be left outside alone.
Loki would thrive in a home that enjoys daily leash walks and companionship. A fenced yard is a bonus, but not required. What matters most to him is being included.
Loki may not come with endless zoomies or over-the-top puppy energy, but he comes with something just as special: a soft heart, an easy presence, and the kind of companionship that feels effortless.
His new family won’t just be giving him a home. They’ll be showing him what it means to finally belong.

Loki is neutered, microchipped, up to date on rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines, and tested negative for heartworm. His adoption donation is $600.
Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home.
