ium energy level—she’s always ready to play, explore, or hop in the car for the next adventure, but she also knows how to settle down when the day is done. And when it’s time for a nap? Her favorite place is simply wherever her person happens to be. One of Magnolia’s biggest strengths is just how much real-world exposure she has gotten while in foster. She has spent LOTS of time around other dogs and is social and playful with them. Her absolute favorite activity is wrestling with her foster sibling, and her foster believes she would really enjoy having another dog in her forever home. Magnolia also currently lives with cats. She wants to play with them and can occasionally be a little too interested, so she may need reminders and continued guidance around feline friends, but she has had regular exposure to them. And if you're looking for an adventure buddy, Magnolia has already mastered one very important skill: she is a car-riding PRO. She is relaxed in the car and has plenty of experience loading up and going places with her foster. Whether you're headed out for an adventure or just running around town, Magnolia is happy to come along. At home, Magnolia has a great foundation. She is house trained, crate trained, sleeps through the night, and can be left alone without being destructive. She is also comfortable with visitors and has been exposed to plenty of everyday household sights and sounds. Magnolia already knows sit, down, and leave it and is continuing to work on stay, recall, and her leash manners. She is food motivated, enjoys toys, and has a moderate prey drive. She can still be unsure of herself at times, so continuing to build her confidence through positive experiences, training, and consistency will be important. Her foster describes her as a dog who “has come a long way” and believes she would thrive in a home with another dog. Magnolia is still young and has plenty left to learn, but she already has so many of the pieces in place to become an incredible companion. Oh, and Magnolia may be getting a tiny bit of a big head lately. She recently met Hal, who played a young Scooby-Doo in a new live-action movie, so naturally she now considers herself famous by association. Now this little celebrity is ready to find a forever family where she can leave her own paw-tograph for years to come. All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and 6 month subscription. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
