e is incredibly affectionate and happiest when he's close to his people. Calm, easygoing, and full of joy, Bruno simply wants to be loved—and to love you right back. Bruno can experience a little separation anxiety and may whine briefly when someone leaves, but his excitement when they return says it all. He'll happily rest his head on your lap for pets and attention, and his enthusiastic tail wag is legendary—just don't stand behind him when he's happy! Bruno doesn't need a huge yard to be content. A fenced backyard provides plenty of room for him to stretch his legs, and he's more interested in spending time with his family than anything else. He's not much of a barker and has excellent house manners. He is housebroken, crate trained, walks nicely on a leash, rides well in the car, is comfortable using a doggy door, and is muzzle trained. At the veterinarian, Bruno wasn't a fan of having his legs manipulated during his examination or receiving vaccinations. Once a muzzle was placed on him, however, he remained calm and cooperative. His veterinarian was not concerned by his behavior, noting that after everything Bruno has been through, his reaction was understandable and that the muzzle simply helped him relax through the exam. Bruno currently lives with two Great Danes and a smaller Lab mix. While he gets along well with the other dogs, he tends to keep to himself. If another dog is pushy or bossy, Bruno simply walks away rather than engaging. He would likely thrive as an only dog or with a calm female companion. His foster home does not have cats, so his compatibility with them is unknown. However, he certainly enjoys watching—and chasing—the squirrels in the backyard, so a home without cats may be the safest choice. Bruno has lived happily with older teenagers and young adults and adores everyone he meets. Because of his size, he sometimes stands directly in front of people without realizing he's in the way, so families with very young children should keep that in mind. Bruno is highly food motivated and gets very excited at mealtime. When he first arrived, he tried to sample everyone else's dinner, but he quickly learned that each dog has their own bowl and now eats politely in his designated spot. He can be a bit of a counter surfer, so keeping food out of reach is recommended. Giving medication became easy once his foster family discovered hickory smoke-flavored pill pockets—they're his favorite! Health Information Heartworm positive (treatment needed/ongoing). Small umbilical hernia that does not bother him and is not a concern according to his veterinarian. Previously had several teeth extracted before coming into foster care; his veterinarian is pleased with his current dental health. When it's time to relax, Bruno is happy sleeping on the floor beside your bed, on a rug, or in his open crate. He doesn't try to claim the furniture—he simply wants to be close to his people. Bruno's ideal home is one where he'll be cherished as part of the family. He isn't looking for anything fancy—just someone who will shower him with affection and let him return it tenfold. If you're ready for a loyal, loving shadow with a heart as big as he is, Bruno is waiting to meet you. =============================================================================== To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 . 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
