Mutt Dogs For Adoption in Imlay City, MI, USA

Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Hi, it's #madlovezillah with another update! I've been in my foster home for 2½ weeks, and WOW... I have so much to tell you! First th

ings first... I'm ROCKING this whole "good dog" thing. I'm learning to walk nicely on a leash. I know wait and stay. I'll even drop my ball when I hear the cue "Out." Mom calls me confident and friendly! (score!!) Pretty impressive, right? Remember when I first met my foster brothers and got a little... wiggly and overexcited? Well, I've grown up a lot! Now I play much more politely and sometimes I even snuggle up with them. Oh... and about the cat... ‍ Let's just say I have learned to give her the respect she deserves. She is definitely the boss of this house, and honestly... I don't argue with her. Sometimes my foster mom calls me "extra." I completely agree! Extra smart. Extra fun. Extra affectionate. Extra eager to learn. Extra ready for adventure. I still don't understand why I'm homeless because my foster mom keeps telling me I'm brilliant, beautiful, kind, and so much fun to be around. If you like your sugar with just a little spice... I'm your girl. I even met a tiny human recently, and I was gentle and on my very best behavior. Pretty proud of myself! The more you challenge my brain, the happier I am. I absolutely LOVE learning and would thrive in activities like agility, scent work, rally, or just continuing my training with my person. I also overheard my foster telling someone I'm "very friendly and affectionate." Well... if there are treats involved, of course I am! The truth is, I'm settling in beautifully. Every day I become more confident, more relaxed, and more ready for the forever family I've been waiting for. The best part of me? After all the adventures are over, I'll happily curl up beside you for cuddles. I have a wonderful off-switch and love being close to my people. Here's my résumé: Crate trained. Housebroken. Dog social. Good with respectful cats. Gentle with kids. Smart as a whip. Ready to learn. Ready to love. Oh... and my adoption fee is discounted through the end of the month! So... who's looking for a beautiful, goofy, affectionate girl with a huge heart, a brilliant mind, and just the right amount of sass? Because I'm pretty sure I'm looking for you. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
