Little Star #1 | 2-Year-Old Chihuahua Mix | A Tiny Survivor with a Heart of Gold Little Star may have had a difficult start in life, but she hasn't let it dampen her loving spirit. Rescued from a neglect and cruelty case, this incredibly sweet Chihuahua mix is ready to leave the past behind and find the forever family she deserves. People are Little Star's favorite thing in the world! She loves everyone she meets and happily accepts all the pets and attention she can get. While she gets along well with dogs of all sizes, she's much more interested in making human friends than canine ones. This gentle, low-energy girl enjoys short walks, car rides, and relaxing next to her favorite person on the couch. She's house trained with access to a dog door, walks nicely on a leash, and has done wonderfully when left home alone for a few hours. She has a sweet habit of offering her paw for pets and rolling over for belly rubs. Little Star is still learning what it means to simply be a dog. She's just beginning to learn basic commands, isn't interested in toys yet, and continues to gain confidence every day. Despite having experienced severe neglect and malnutrition, she is trusting, affectionate, and not food aggressive—a true testament to her forgiving nature. Her ideal home is with someone who has a big heart and will appreciate what an incredibly loving companion she is. Little Star is proof that second chances can lead to the happiest endings. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you. The adoption fee for this pet is $400. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here . Please give us 72 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogsarrcolorado for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: arrcolorado/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
