Maverick – Black Male Mix, 1.5 years, 60 lbs. With a name like Maverick, you'd expect a fearless adventurer. Instead, we got the sweetest, goofiest oversized puppy who is convinced the world is just a tiny bit scary... until he realizes there are people to love on. Maverick is being surrendered through absolutely no fault of his own. Because we are currently short on foster homes, he will remain with his owners while we help him find the perfect forever family. As we often do with owner-surrender dogs, one of our volunteers took Maverick out for a day of adventures so we could get to know his personality and better match him with the right home. At first, Maverick was understandably nervous. New places and new experiences made him a little unsure of himself. But it didn't take long before he discovered that outings could actually be a lot of fun! His favorite part? Meeting absolutely everyone. This friendly boy believes every stranger is simply a friend he hasn't met yet. He proudly picked out a brand-new toy at PetSmart and even found two little girls he was hoping would take him home on the spot. Our volunteer shared: "He's still learning the ropes when it comes to walking on a leash and he needs to build a little confidence, but his love for life and his desire for affection completely win you over. He's a really nice dog, and I think he would fit into almost any household. 'Sit' isn't quite in his vocabulary yet, but he's a quick learner. Once he realized I was there to keep him safe, it was amazing to watch his confidence grow in just a couple of hours." Maverick currently lives with children and a cat and does wonderfully with both. He was crate trained as a puppy but has earned the privilege of being trusted to free roam the house. We aren't sure what breeds make up this handsome boy. He was originally adopted from the shelter after being found as a stray at just 6 months old. Now, through no fault of his own, he is once again searching for a family to call his own. Maverick deserves the stability and unconditional love every dog dreams of.
