Lab mix is the kind of dog who is happiest right by your side, whether you're heading out for a walk, tossing around his favorite squeaky toy, or relaxing on the couch after a long day. Revere has a wonderful mix of playful and laid-back. He enjoys a couple of daily walks and the occasional trip to the dog park, but he's just as content spending a quiet afternoon at home with his people. His favorite toy is his Lamb Chop, and watching him happily squeak it around the house is guaranteed to make you smile. One of Revere's favorite things in the world is cuddling. If you're sitting down, he'll happily find a way to fit beside you, no matter how small the space may seem. He's affectionate without being demanding and has a gentle, loving personality that makes him easy to adore. Revere is house-trained and does an excellent job letting you know when he needs to go outside. He has great house manners and can be trusted with free roam when left alone, as long as tempting items are picked up. He's also making great progress with his crate training and continues to grow more comfortable each day. He gets along very well with other dogs and has enjoyed playing politely with his canine friends. While he hasn't lived with cats, he has remained calm and uninterested when seeing them on walks, so slow, supervised introductions may be successful. He has not spent much time with children but has always been friendly with everyone he meets and stays calm around kids he sees out and about. Like many dogs adjusting to a new home, Revere experienced a little separation anxiety at first. He has made wonderful progress and now settles quickly after you leave. He may whine for a few minutes, but he relaxes once he realizes you'll be back. His only real complaint? Baths. He would happily skip those forever if given the choice. Revere is a sweet, easygoing companion with so much love to give. If you're looking for a loyal friend who will happily join you for walks, cuddle up at the end of the day, and brighten your home with his loving personality, Revere is ready to meet you. If you are interested in Revere, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $450. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
