She adores everyone she meets, whether they have two legs or four. She absolutely loves other dogs and is happiest when she has a playmate to wrestle with, play tug-of-war, or simply curl up beside for a nap. One of her sweetest habits is falling asleep touching another dog with a paw or her back, just so she knows they're close. She's also wonderful with children and has been living with a four-year-old. Like many puppies, Gravy gets excited when greeting people and may jump up to say hello, but it's all out of pure happiness and love. She truly believes everyone she meets is her new best friend. Gravy loves spending time with her family, whether that means playing outside, snuggling on the couch, or accepting treats with her signature happy grin. Like any puppy, she's still learning the rules of the house, especially which toys belong to her and which belong to her humans. She's smart, eager to please and learning quickly. Gravy would love a home with another playful dog, but more than anything, she wants a family who will include her in their everyday adventures. She isn't a fan of being crated when her people leave the house and can become mischievous if left with tempting items like shoes, so she'll do best with a family willing to continue helping her build confidence and good habits. Gravy also has a unique medical story. She was born with congenital heart defects that affect how blood flows through her heart. While she feels fantastic today and doesn't let her heart slow her down, these defects are serious and will likely result in a shorter lifespan than a typical dog. Every dog is different, so it's impossible to predict exactly how much time she'll have or how her condition will progress. What we do know is that she deserves every opportunity to live a life filled with love, adventure, and happiness. Gravy is under the exceptional care of the cardiology team at NC State, and she'll need a family committed to continuing her specialized care, including routine monitoring and follow-up appointments. The best part? Gravy has no idea she's any different. She wakes up every day ready to play, love, cuddle, and soak up every bit of happiness life has to offer. She'll happily snuggle beside you, look into your eyes with her soulful expression, and remind you every single day just how special unconditional love can be. Her heart may not be perfect, but it is overflowing with love, and she's ready to share every beat of it with the family lucky enough to call her their own. Gravy's Favorites: Playing with other dogs Wrestling and tug-of-war Cuddles and naps Treats Being close to her people If you're looking for a joyful, affectionate puppy who will make every day brighter, Gravy may just be the perfect addition to your family.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
