eat Dane who is happiest simply being close to her people. If you're looking for a laid-back companion who enjoys quiet days, short walks, and relaxing in the sunshine, Rosie may be your perfect match.
Rosie is a true Velcro Dane. She loves having a cozy spot near her family and prefers spending her time by your side rather than being constantly on the go. A walk once or twice a day for a few minutes is plenty for her, and after that she's ready to settle in for a nap. She also loves riding in the car and happily joins her foster dad on morning coffee runs. She's quiet, well-behaved in the vehicle, and has even done well waiting calmly for a few minutes while he runs inside.
She has wonderful house manners. Rosie is fully house-trained, walks beautifully on a leash, and is not destructive. She enjoys relaxing outside in a securely fenced yard, especially if there's grass to lounge in and a porch or deck where she can spend time with her family. She has shown little interest in wildlife such as deer or horses, preferring simply to soak up the sunshine.
Rosie is naturally cautious around strangers, particularly men, and needs a little time to build trust. It took about five days for her to fully warm up to her foster dad, while she bonded almost immediately with his wife, Rebecca, who quickly became her favorite person. Once Rosie feels safe, she is affectionate, loyal, and devoted to her family. Her foster believes she may naturally gravitate toward women, although she happily accepts men once trust is established.
At veterinary visits, Rosie has been shy and somewhat nervous with unfamiliar people. Because of her caution and impaired eyesight, she has occasionally given a warning growl, but she has never shown aggressive behavior. A muzzle was used during a couple of visits simply to help the veterinary staff feel more comfortable. Once her foster family is with her, she settles nicely and handles exams well. She also boarded for a few days during a family emergency and received excellent feedback from the staff.
Rosie has not been tested with other dogs or cats. She has not lived with children, but based on her gentle temperament, her foster believes she would likely do best with respectful older children who understand her need for a calm environment.
Rosie recently developed a nasal infection after arriving in foster care and is currently improving on a second course of antibiotics. She also has a cherry eye that has been evaluated by two veterinary clinics, both of which recommend surgery and expect an excellent outcome.
Rosie would thrive in a quiet, low-activity home where she can enjoy a predictable routine and spend her days close to the people she loves. A securely fenced yard where she can relax in the grass would make her especially happy. She could be an excellent companion for a retired person, a single woman, or a family looking for an easygoing, affectionate Great Dane who simply wants a safe place to call home.
