ix may be a little shy when meeting new people or exploring new places, but give her a little patience and kindness, and you'll discover a sweet, affectionate companion who loves nothing more than being close to her favorite people. Frida has a soft, gentle nature and is happiest curled up near you while you work or relax. She especially loves squeaky toys, chasing balls, and soaking up attention. One of her sweetest habits is reaching out with her paw to rest it on your hand while you're petting her, as if she's making sure you know she's right there with you. She also shares one hilarious puppy quirk with her brother: barking at her own reflection in the oven door! Like any young puppy, Frida is still learning. She's doing well with potty training and is getting the hang of doing her business outside, though she's still working on perfecting the routine. She currently sleeps in an x-pen with an open crate and is just beginning her puppy education. Frida gets along well with other dogs after a brief, cautious introduction and would likely enjoy having a confident canine friend to help show her the ropes. She has done well with kids, though energetic children can be a little overwhelming at first, so a family that will give her time to build confidence would be the best fit. She hasn't met cats yet. This smart, medium-sized pup has plenty of playful puppy energy and will thrive with an adopter who is committed to positive training, socialization, and helping her continue to grow into the confident dog she's meant to be. Loud noises can still make her nervous, but she's already made wonderful progress and continues to blossom every day. If you're looking for a loyal best friend with soulful eyes, a gentle spirit, and endless cuddles to give, Frida is ready to find the patient, loving family she's been waiting for. If you are interested in Frida, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
