Ms. Moon Pie - Chocolate Female Mix, 4 Years Old, 66 lbs. Meet Moon Pie, a sweet, gentle girl who is looking for the family she's always deserved. Moon Pie is a true lady. She's house trained, sleeps quietly in her crate at night, and walks nicely on a leash. She absolutely loves people, is wonderful with children, and is incredibly affectionate. She's happiest being close to her family. More than anything, she's looking for consistency, patience, and a home where she can feel safe and loved. One of the cutest things about Moon Pie is how she asks for affection. If she wants your attention, she'll gently plunk her head onto your hand and press down until you give in and scratch under her chin and neck. Every morning she wakes up, rolls onto her back, and stretches her legs as high into the air as she possibly can. It's an adorable way to start the day! Moon Pie enjoys playing fetch and loves trying to catch toys tossed her way—although she'll be the first to admit she's still working on both skills! Despite being a Lab mix, she's surprisingly not much of a swimmer—at least when it comes to backyard pools. We have a feeling that once she's introduced to a lake, river, or beach, she may discover her inner Labrador! She does very well with other dogs once she's had a proper introduction and time to get to know them. She can be a little excited and reactive on leash when she sees other dogs, but it's enthusiasm, not aggression, and she continues to improve with guidance. She lives happily with a 40-pound rescue dog, though. Moon Pie is also wonderful with kids. Like many happy Labs, she can sometimes get excited and jump up when the excitement level rises, so continued training and consistency will help her polish those manners. Moon Pie was abandoned in the Lake Isabella area, and the small rural shelter reached out to us because they knew this special girl deserved a second chance. They were right. She would thrive in a family willing to give her the love, patience, and structure she's been missing. She gets along well with other dogs after proper introductions but would do best in a home without cats. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a sweet soul, a goofy personality, and endless love to give, Moon Pie is waiting to meet you. ❤️ Apply for Ms. Moon Pie at .labrescuefresno. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
