r find a home for them. Please visit aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply. Dallas has a smile that can brighten your whole day, especially when he sees the leash come out and knows it's time for an adventure. This handsome Australian Cattle Dog mix is about 7 years old, weighs 42 pounds, and still has plenty of pep in his step. Dallas loves being with his people and seems happiest when he's included in whatever the day has in store. Whether it's a walk around the neighborhood, a car ride, a training session for treats, or simply relaxing nearby, he's ready to be your loyal companion. Dallas is a smart boy who knows several commands including sit, down, come, wait, and off. He even catches treats in midair. He is perfectly housetrained, crate trained and quickly learned how to use a dog door in his foster home. He walks nicely on a leash, rides quietly in the car, and enjoys exploring the yard in search of squirrels or other exciting things to watch. He has adjusted wonderfully to life with his foster family's dogs and enjoys playing and chasing with them. Dallas has done well meeting new people and dogs with a proper introduction. He is not a fan of cats and would likely be happiest in a home without feline roommates. Dallas is being rehomed after being deeply loved by his longtime owners, who made the difficult decision because of health challenges of their own. Through it all, Dallas has remained the affectionate, devoted dog he's always been. Contact us for more information on adopting Dallas. Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
