forever. He is a large young pup with a short brown and black coat and unforgettable light blue eyes. One eye even has a little mark that looks like a keyhole which is how this sweet boy got his perfect name. At 52 pounds and given his young age he is considered a large dog and will most likely grow more and remain a large-size dog of over 60 pounds when fully grown. He has plenty of puppy charm and just the right amount of goofy adventure energy. Locke does well with other dogs and children. He is adored by everyone who meets him. Locke deserves a home of his own where he will be spoiled with love and affection every day of his life. His history with cats is unknown so any feline introductions should be slow and thoughtful. Swimming is one of his favorite things to do daily. When he is not busy making waves, he loves hanging out with dog friends playing like the puppy he still is and settling in for couch time after a full day. His ideal home would most likely include a pool he can swim in or a body of water nearby so he can get his fix in. Locke has mastered his house and crate training skills, and his leash training skill is a work in progress. A family that can offer patience, routine and positive guidance will be the ideal fit for Locke. He is smart social and ready for someone who will keep showing him how good life can be. It is important to remember that although Locke is housetrained, accidents can occur while adjusting to a new home environment. Locke would love a home that enjoys playful days loving companionship and maybe a safe place to splash whenever the weather agrees. He has already come so far, and he is ready for his forever family who sees the loyal, joyful dog he has always been. If you are looking for a sweet resilient adventure buddy with blue eyes a playful soul and a heart full of love, Locke may be the key to your next chapter. * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Locke is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
