memo that he's almost 10 years old! At 9½ years young, this handsome 45-pound orange and white Brittany still has plenty of pep in his step, zoomies in his paws, and love overflowing from his big Brittany heart. Tank is the kind of dog who believes personal space is highly overrated. If you're sitting down, he's sitting with you. If you're walking through the house, he's your faithful shadow. If you're looking for a best friend who wants to be part of everything you do, Tank is already packed and ready! One of Tank's favorite hobbies is carrying around "treasures." Shoes, toys, socks...he'll proudly parade them around while deciding whether they're collectibles or chew toys, so it's best to keep those prized possessions picked up. He also considers himself your official taste tester and would be more than happy to help you finish any snack you're eating. Tank still loves to romp around the yard, race through a few joyful zoomies, and then settle in for what he considers the perfect reward—a yummy treat, plenty of butt scratches, and a cozy snuggle beside his favorite person. His fenced yard isn't just for exercise...it's also his kingdom to patrol. Squirrels, rabbits, and any other furry visitors should know that Tank takes neighborhood security very seriously! Tank gets along well with other dogs but enjoys being the leading man. He would be happiest with a laid-back female canine companion who doesn't mind letting him be the charming star of the show. Dog-savvy cats are just fine, and he enjoys kids, rides beautifully in the car, and is always ready for the next family adventure. Tank is housebroken, up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm and tick negative, and on monthly heartworm, flea, and tick prevention. A secure physical fenced yard will allow him to safely enjoy his daily patrols and those happy Brittany zoomies that remind everyone age is just a number. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will make you laugh, keep you company, remind you to put your shoes away, and fill your days with unconditional love, Tank Ty is ready to become your favorite shadow. Tank's perfect day? A few joyful zoomies, a thorough backyard patrol, a tasty snack, plenty of butt scratches, and snuggling up beside the people he loves most. At the end of the day, that's all this sweet Brittany gentleman really wants. MEDICAL NOTE: TANK HAD A THYROIDECTOMY-LEFT CLEAR MARGINS ON 04/29/26. IT WAS A CLEAN, SUCCESSFUL SURGERY. TESTED HIS THYROID ON 07/14/26 AND IT WAS PERFECT. NO MEDS. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
