Bella is a 13-year-old Poodle weighing approximately 10 pounds. Bella is a sweet, gentle, and happy little lady with a heart full of love. She's a classic "velcro dog" who enjoys following her person from room to room. She's not overly demanding though – she simply loves being near you. Whether she's curled up at your feet or relaxing where she can keep an eye on you, Bella is content to spend most of the day quietly by your side. While Bella is laid-back at home, she lights up when it's time for a walk! She loves exploring the neighborhood, taking her time to sniff every interesting scent along the way. She's great on a leash and willing to greet other dogs. She would thrive with someone who can give her regular walks. When she's not out on an adventure, Bella enjoys sniffing around the backyard and receiving plenty of pets and affection. She doesn't enjoy being left alone for long periods and would be happiest in a home where someone is around most of the time. Bella gets along well with other dogs and is polite and respectful as long as they respect her space. She would be happiest with another calm dog or as the only dog in the home, as high-energy canine companions aren't really her style. She is also good with kids and loves both men and women. Bella has had a few accidents while settling into her foster home, which is common during a transition. With a consistent routine and a little patience, she should be fully potty trained pretty easily. Bella is in great shape for a senior girl. She has no known chronic health or mobility issues and still has plenty of love to give. If you're looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who will happily join you for frequent walks and be your loyal shadow throughout the day, Bella may be the perfect match. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccines. Her adoption fee is $200. All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption. Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. Fees help Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. Please go to .secondchancedogrescue and complete an application today! All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
