ushing to see what’s happening, Sashimi is perfectly content to take her time. She’s often the last one to saunter outside and the last one to trot back in—everything happens on Sashimi’s schedule! She does well with other dogs and has been around both her siblings and larger adult dogs in her foster home. While she enjoys a good wrestling session with her littermates when the mood strikes, she’s also perfectly happy entertaining herself with her toys, relaxing in a dog bed, or hanging out with the “big kids.” She’d likely enjoy having another playful dog in her new home, but her independent streak means she knows how to keep herself occupied, too. Sashimi has also been wonderful with her foster family’s 2-year-old daughter. She’s gentle with her, allows herself to be held, and has shown no concerning behavior around children. Like her siblings, Sashimi is still working on house training, but she’s off to a promising start. She does a great job going to the bathroom right away when taken outside and is beginning to show signs that she’s looking for an appropriate potty spot when indoors. She’s also still learning about leash walking—and right now, she thinks chewing on the leash is much more entertaining than actually walking on it! Sashimi is comfortable spending time in a puppy pen and does well in a carrier. Since she’s still in the potty-training and teething stages, she should continue to be crated or safely confined when left unsupervised. One thing Sashimi does have some opinions about is food. She can be the most assertive and vocal of the group at mealtime, so she would do best being fed separately from other animals. She’s fine eating around her siblings now, but giving her a designated space for meals will help set her up for success. Despite being the independent one, Sashimi absolutely has a cuddly side. She may not be the puppy who comes racing over and launches herself into your lap, but once you scoop her up, she is content to be held and snuggled. She simply likes affection on her own terms. Sashimi loves toys, playtime, and exploring alongside her foster family. She and her siblings will happily follow their people around the yard, then settle into playing together once they know where everyone is hanging out. Sashimi would thrive with a family who appreciates an independent little personality and is ready for all the training, teething, playtime, and fun that come with raising a puppy. In return, they’ll get a happy, confident little companion who knows exactly what she wants—and will keep everyone smiling while she does it. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: .sandypawsrescue. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: .sandypawsrescue. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
