13 pounds now, this happy girl is expected to grow into a medium-sized adult and is already showing what a wonderful family companion she will be. Garnet settled into foster care with ease and quickly became the social butterfly of the group. She loves spending time with her foster family, romping around with her brothers and sister, and making new friends wherever she goes. Whether she's racing around the yard with the zoomies, playing tug-of-war, or eagerly waiting for dinner, Garnet approaches everything with enthusiasm and a happy heart. One of Garnet's cutest habits is the way she naps completely sprawled out with her paws in the air. When she's dreaming, her little feet start running as if she's chasing her next adventure, and it's impossible not to smile. She also loves meeting other dogs and greets them with happy barks and a tail wag so enthusiastic it looks like she might take flight. Like any young puppy, Garnet is learning all about the world. She is eager to please and is making nice progress with her potty routine by going outside on a regular schedule. She enjoys relaxing in an open crate during the day and will continue building her crate skills after her upcoming spay surgery. Garnet gets along wonderfully with other dogs and loves spending time with children. She has a moderate energy level and will thrive with daily walks, playtime, and plenty of opportunities to continue learning. If you're looking for a cheerful, affectionate puppy who is always ready for fun and cuddles, Garnet is ready to bring endless happiness to her forever family. If you are interested in Garnet, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
