she is a goofy girl with an irresistibly sweet personality to match her adorable face. She is a bubbly and fun pup who loves making new friends. Maddie loves playtime, treats, and exploring new places. She would love a semi-active family that will take her on lots of adventures. Maddie weighs about 8-10lbs and we estimate that she will be around 40-60lbs when fully grown. Maddie came to us from our local animal shelter with her two sisters, Oreo and Sugar. The girls came into the shelter as strays with their mom and six siblings. An owner came forward and reclaimed their mom after she was spayed, and the remaining puppies went to another local rescue. The Cookie Sisters have been thriving in foster together and are now looking for individual homes where they can get the one-on-one training and socialization they need to be well-rounded adults. Maddie's mom appeared to be a pit bull mix and weighed about 60lbs. We do not know who the dad is. Maddie is the fun-loving leader of the group. She is the biggest of the puppies and is the first to check new things out, and is always front and center for treat time. She is a very curious puppy and enjoys going on walks, being carried in a puppy pack. Once she is fully vaccinated, she will be a great companion for someone who wants a walking/hiking companion. Maddie is a smart girl and needs a family committed to helping her continue to learn all of her basic manners. She would be a great candidate for group puppy training classes. Maddie loves other dogs and could do great with another playful dog or as an only dog in her new home. Maddie could do well living with dog-savvy cats. Maddie could make a wonderful addition to a family with older kids. Maddie is still working on her housetraining, so she will need a family who can be patient while she is learning and be consistent with her training. Maddie does well being left for short periods with her sisters in a pen, but has never been truly alone. She would do best with a family that can slowly acclimate her to being home alone. Maddie happily sleeps through the night in a pen with her sisters. **Due to her breed mix, Maddie may not be allowed at most rental homes or apartments. Please check your landlord/property management for breed restrictions before applying.** Madeline is such a wonderful little girl, and she is going to bring so much fun to her new family. If she sounds like the girl for you, submit an application today! Madeline's adoption fee is $400. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
