cts with our two dogs nicely. He's met a dozen humans as well and has greeted them all with a wagging tail. No info on cats or other animals yet. We are working on house-training, crate-training, and some basic commands. He is slowly gaining some weight as well. Right now, he barks at other dogs upon first seeing them but then is fine. We are working on that as well. 5/23/26: Kasier has come a long way! He has gained some weight and confidence. he plays with our dogs, and mets other dogs with a wagging tail. He seems love love all sized humans. He is quick to learn new skills and has a decent sit and leash walk already. He figured out or dog door with no prompting. He watched our dogs go through and just follwed them yesterday. Now, he uses it regularly. 5/28/26: Kaiser is all settled in and ready for a forever home. We are continuing to work on some basic commands. He's very quick to learn and eager to please. He's also put on some weight so his ribs aren't sticking out anymore. He lost a baby tooth a few days ago, and still has a few more stubborn ones. We'll get that checked out at the vet on Monday, June 1st along with his next round of shots. 6/2/26: Vet check went well. He got his DHLPP booster. His baby teeth that haven't fallen out and probably need to be pulled. Still waiting to see what happens. 6/6/26: He now walks great on a leash and off leash, he stay close, and comes when you call him. He's mastered sit and we're working on lie down and stay. 6/23/26: Kaiser had his teeth checked out (and fixed!) by a vet detanl specialist. Seems his lower canines were poking into his upper hard palate, so she adjusted and shortened them. Now he can chew like a real champ! For adoption info, please email htate1060gmail

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
