e and family to love. I’m so grateful that Mostly Mutts was able to take me in and I am happy to be soaking up all the love from the volunteers. Now I'm ready to find a wonderful home of my own. Perhaps with you? • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met dogs at Mostly Mutts and although I was shy and a little nervous, I didn’t show any aggression. I have a calm, confident female dog friend at the shelter who I love to follow around. I also enjoyed playing with a nice male dog I met on a recent daytrip. My trainer thinks I would do well in a home with a friendly, confident dog to help me come out of my shell, so if you have a dog like this at home, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts. On a daytrip, I did well with the 15-year-old, but growled when the younger kids approached me. Older kids 15+ who understand that I am learning to trust would be best, so let’s meet. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: My trainer says I am so sweet and loving. I am a bit shy at first, but once I know I can trust you, I’ll shower you with love and affection. My whole body wags when my favorite people get down on the ground with me. I am already figuring out that toys can be fun and even show a few zoomies when I’m with my favorite people. I got to help in the shelter office a few times and I enjoyed playing with the toys there and even started seeking out more attention each time—do you need an office dog? The bath was pretty scary for me, but I knew my trainer was there to support me so I tried to be very brave. I am hopeful for what the future holds with a patient and loving family. Could it be you? / Energy level: 3-5, which may increase as I become more comfortable. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the ‘sit’ command, I am working on my confidence walking on a leash—it helps me to take a certain route that I am familiar with—and I look forward to learning more. Let's continue my training together with the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers for all their adopted dogs! / I am doing well in my little room at Mostly Mutts, but I have been hesitant to come out, as I am working on some threshold challenges, but treats and my new dog friend are helping me to make strides. / I’m having accidents on the shelter schedule, improving a bit on doing #1 outside. On a recent daytrip, I had a #2 accident in the house, but did #1 outside. Please continue to be consistent with me on a good schedule, so I can master my potty skills. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I like it when my people get down on the floor with me. I also like belly rubs, giving kisses and running zoomies once I feel safe. I am learning that soft toys and tennis balls can be fun. I know we’ll discover lots more things we enjoy doing together! / I don’t like spending time outside so a fenced yard would be a good safe space to spend time together. I also don’t like people to go too quickly with me or that scary bath sprayer and like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I am looking for a calm and patient family to love me furever! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
