in need of a home! Thankfully, they took me in, and I am soaking up all the love and attention from the volunteers here and I heard them say that I’m now ready to find a family of my very own. I think that is the best news ever! Plan to come meet me soon and see if I am your new furry family member! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met some dogs recently at Mostly Mutts and although I didn’t want to play with them, I was interested and didn’t show any aggression. If you have a nice dog at home, let’s meet and see if we can be pals. / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a soft-hearted, gentle lady who lives for love and cuddles. If you sit with me, I’ll quietly place my paw in your hand—my way of saying, “please don’t stop petting me.” I adore being touched, brushed, and pampered. Bath time? No problem! I stand like a pro, enjoy the warm water, and even wag my tail during my towel-off and light brushing. After my little spa days, I trot happily back to my kennel, feeling fresh and proud. I can be a bit timid at first, but once I trust you, I walk calmly and politely on my leash. I’m a true house dog at heart—when we go outside, I take care of my business quickly so we can get back to the cozy indoors where I belong. I may be a senior, but my heart is young and full of love. I’m just looking for a quiet, warm home where I can be your loyal, gentle companion for the rest of my days. / Energy level: 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands and I look forward to learning more. You know that old saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?” Ha! Let’s continue my training together with the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers for all their adopted dogs! / My crate manners have been good. / My potty manners have been good on the shelter schedule. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I like lots of pets and spending time with my people—and maybe treats a little too much, so please help me lose some weight—let’s get active together! / I don’t like to spend too much time outside and like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I have moderate tartar on my teeth, and bilateral chipped teeth not causing any pain right now, but my adoptive family should consult with their vet and consider a dental cleaning in the future. Since I'm a Dachshund mix, I naturally have a long back which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy. I am looking for a wonderful furever home with a loving family! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
