are perfect for the right someone. Our goal is to match each dog with the home that fits them best and each home with the dog that will sing to your heart. Ready to adopt? Complete an application at .carolinapoodlerescue/application Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet, SC Weight: 8.1 lbs and at a healthy weight Height: about 9 in at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $499 Fence needed? No Want To Know More About Me? Text Bridget to 864-441-9075 for my full story and photos - we'll send everything you need to know! Here's Your Quick Peek: Bridget is a sweet, gentle little Yorkie-Poo who arrived pregnant, underweight and in desperate need of care. She has raised her babies, regained her health and discovered that she absolutely loves being someone’s cuddle bug. Now it is finally Bridget’s turn to shine! Please note - if you want to skip the text and go straight to the application, you can find the link here: .carolinapoodlerescue/application/ Must have: A patient family willing to gently teach Bridget the everyday routines of being a beloved pet—and plenty of time for cuddling. Exercise: Daily walks, playtime and a good romp with canine friends. Best with: A kind, quieter home. Another friendly dog is preferred but not required if Bridget can enjoy regular playdates with other dogs. Not ideal for: A family expecting a fully trained dog who already understands every part of home life from day one. Energy level: Moderate. Bridget enjoys playing but also has a quieter, gentler side. Bridget has never truly been a pet, so she still has some “dog things” to learn. Humans, however, she has completely figured out—once she decides she likes you, she becomes the biggest little attention hog and cuddle bug! SPECIAL MEDICAL NOTE - Bridget’s biopsy results are back, and the news is encouraging. The mass was a Grade 1 mammary gland tumor, which is considered a favorable, low-grade tumor. These tumors are generally well contained and are not particularly prone to spreading to other parts of the body. The pathologist was not able to confirm that the surgical margins were completely clear. That sounds scarier than it necessarily is—it does not mean that tumor cells were left behind or that the tumor will come back. According to our veterinarian, the Grade 1 classification is the more important piece of information and is very encouraging. For now, Bridget does not need additional treatment. We will simply monitor the area carefully with regular examinations. Her surgical site was healing beautifully at her most recent visit, and she will return for another recheck on August 26 so our veterinarian can make sure everything continues to look exactly as it should. Good with dogs: Yes. She enjoys other dogs and has never lived as an only dog. Good with kids: Not yet tested. Cats: Bridget had several feline friends in her foster home. She has no problem with cats. Fun fact: Bridget learned to walk on a leash while raising her puppies in her caregiver’s home, and a fenced yard is not required. Potential Adopters Dogs can’t drive - and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
