t on the MPR website. Contact charleylacey7gmail for more information or to adopt the pet. Meet Doc Watson. Aka Doc, Doc-a-Doo, and Mr. Doc Watson! He is an almost 5-year-old staffy mix, weighing approximately 50lbs. Contact me today at charleylacey7gmail to learn more or meet Doc! The Good Super snuggly. Will ball up into the tiniest little croissant and sit in your lap, sleep under the covers and keep your warm. 95% of the time he is super-chill. Listens well and can sit, is crate-trained and will go right in when you say “get in your house.” He’s not an alpha dog and responds well to alpha humans, and although he is not a barker in general, he has a good bark for protection when needed When he’s sad or wants out of his crate, he will sing you a song that sounds like some kind of crazy bird Crate-trained and we can include the crate We will include approximately 6 months of his food (from Patton Ave Pet). He doesn’t do well with grains or chicken (like many Pitties, it makes him itchy). We will pay $250 to the vet of your choice (he has been going to Partners in AVL or Swannanoa Valley Animal Hospital) to go towards his next check up/shots. He is currently up to date on all shots. He has successfully and gently lived with cats. The Challenges He’s a bit of an escape artist, so best to have a privacy fence and/or a place for him to run. He can jump a regular chain link fence. If he’s left alone outside of his crate and has access to shoes or anything leather, he will chew on them. He can be left alone out of the crate *if* he has no access to things, but is OK in his crate for up to about 5 hours (although ideally not in that long every day bc he has zoomies to burn for sure). He is too excited to be around small children (he is very strong and jumps/runs fast) but he’s not aggressive with kids, just very excited and wanting to love them with more power than he should. He probably would do best as the only dog in the household. That way he can get all the love. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Contact the foster parent or Mountain Pet Rescue at petsmpravl for more information. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Mountain Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity (EIN 82-3039637) located in Asheville, NC.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
