O ready to find his person! He’s sweet, playful, loves his walks, LOVES other dogs, and once he trusts you, he is all about the love. He’s also a little bit of a work in progress—which means he needs someone who can give him the patience, consistency, and love he deserves. Little Wolf is fostered in the East SF Bay Area. We are open to out of the area adopters who are willing to come to us to meet him. When Little Wolf first came to us, he was covered in severe mats and was very nervous and protective. We don’t know much about his life before coming into foster care, but it’s clear that he didn’t get the care or training he needed. The good news? He is making progress, and he is SO eager to be loved once he feels safe with you. A FEW THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT LITTLE WOLF: He loves his people! He tends to prefer women and just needs a little extra time and patience to warm up to men. He LOVES other dogs! He would be a fantastic playmate for a dog who enjoys having a buddy. He may be a little much for a dog who prefers their personal space. He could also happily be your one-and-only, as long as he gets plenty of attention from his human. What about cats? We’re not completely sure yet how Little Wolf feels about cats, but we think he may be able to live with a confident, dog-savvy cat. A careful introduction and the right feline personality would be important. He LOVES his walks! Walks are a great way for him to burn energy and help him relax. His foster mom usually takes him on two walks a day—just over a mile each time—and he LOVES them! He’s a great travel buddy! Little Wolf does well in the crate and on car rides, making him an easy guy to take along on adventures. He’s still working on house training. He is definitely improving! He loves exploring and marking the yard, so frequent trips outside are helpful. And he has absolutely no problem wearing a belly band while he works on his manners. Best for a home without small children. He would do best in a home without young children since he can be a little nippy when he’s nervous. And look at all the GOOD stuff! • Young and handsome • Healthy • Neutered • Microchipped • Vaccinated • Freshly and beautifully groomed • LOVES other dogs • GREAT on walks • Does well in a crate • Does well on car rides • Very affectionate once he trusts you WHAT LITTLE WOLF NEEDS Little Wolf needs someone who will give him time to trust, help him build confidence, keep him active, and show him that people can be good. He may need a little more patience than some dogs, but once he lets you into his heart, you get the feeling he is going to give you ALL the love he’s been waiting for. If you think you might be Little Wolf’s person, please email us at at beourpetgmail! We know he’s very handsome, and may get a lot of attentions so please let us know what his life would be like with you and how you plan to work through some of his challenges. This handsome boy is ready for his next chapter—and he deserves a family who will give him the time and love to become the very best version of himself. Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
