Meet JETT — The Gentle Giant Who Will Steal Your Heart! Jett is one of those dogs you meet and immediately wonder how someone ever let him end up in a shelter. He is gorgeous, incredibly sweet, gentle, smart, affectionate, and just an all-around wonderful boy. Jett is a 68-pound Border Collie/Flat Coat Retriever mix, possibly with a some small-Dane mixed in somewhere! Whatever his recipe is, it certainly worked! He has a beautiful, fluffy coat that is as soft as rabbit fur, gorgeous shining eyes, and the most adorable white “socks” on his feet and legs, complete with black mottling and speckles. And then there’s his beautiful fan-tail! His mostly black tail curls halfway upward and ends in a lovely white tip. We absolutely adore it. So many herding dogs have very little tail, so seeing Jett’s gorgeous plume of a tail is pretty special! But Jett’s beauty is nothing compared to his personality. ❤️ GENTLE, LOVING & EASYGOING Jett is a true gentle giant. Despite his size, he has a wonderfully manageable medium energy level. He isn’t constantly bouncing off the walls or demanding entertainment. He is perfectly happy relaxing with his people and soaking up affection. He LOVES to be petted. In fact, when he first meets you, his primary goal is simply to get as much love as possible. Once he knows you and feels comfortable, he’s ready to play ball, play fetch, and have some fun! Jett is also exceptionally gentle and patient. We have seen absolutely zero signs of aggression from him. He is an easygoing, submissive boy who tends to defer to other dogs rather than challenge them. He is currently in a foster home with a Mini Aussie female who isn’t exactly the world’s most enthusiastic playmate, and Jett simply respects her space. He is also happily sharing the home with another male foster dog, and the two get along beautifully. There have been no alpha issues whatsoever. THE PERFECT HOUSE GUEST Jett is completely housebroken and does not need to be crated. He enjoys appropriate chewies like rawhides, but he doesn’t go around chewing things that don’t belong to him. He’s also not a big barker. He doesn’t bark just because he can. We’re sure he’ll let you know if someone knocks on the door or rings the bell, but he’s much more of a gentle companion than a self-appointed security system! Jett would fit beautifully into a variety of homes. He could be an amazing companion for a single person who works from home, someone who can bring their dog to work, or anyone looking for a loving companion to share everyday life with. He would likely be an excellent doggy-daycare candidate, and he enjoys the company of other dogs. He could also make a wonderful companion for another large, moderate-energy dog. And if his canine sibling happens to be higher energy, Jett may discover that he has even more enthusiasm for play! A WONDERFUL FAMILY DOG We think Jett could be an exceptional family dog. He is patient, gentle, affectionate, and not overly excitable. His size may make him look imposing, but his personality is anything but intimidating. He has shown absolutely no aggression and isn’t particularly prey-driven. We don’t know how he would be with cats, so that would need to be evaluated on an individual basis, but his overall temperament is incredibly soft and easygoing. SMART, TRAINABLE & EAGER TO PLEASE Jett is a very smart boy who wants to please his people. He is responsive to training and already knows some basic commands. He’s treat motivated, but what’s even more motivating to Jett is your praise and affection. Tell him what a good boy he is, scratch his ears, give him a belly rub—and you’ve got one very happy dog! He will even roll over for belly rubs. ❤️ A SHELTER FAVORITE Jett was evaluated at the rural shelter where he came from, and everyone there loved him. He quickly became a staff favorite. It’s easy to see why. He is healthy, at the perfect weight, beautifully groomed, and has a gorgeous coat. His eyes shine, his tail is fabulous, and he is a happy, comfortable dog who seems ready to discover just how wonderful life can be with a family of his own. We think Jett would absolutely LOVE to learn how to go places, explore the world, play fetch, and experience life alongside his humans. He is the kind of dog who doesn’t need a complicated life. He just needs his people, some love, a little fun, and a soft place to land. Whoever meets this wonderful boy first is going to want to bring him home forever. ❤️ ⸻ INTERESTED IN ADOPTING JETT? If Jett sounds like the perfect addition to your family, please complete an adoption application at: .dashdog Then TEXT SARA at 214-549-9905 so I can check your application and get back to you! Jett is ready to meet his forever family. And trust us… you’re going to love this boy. ❤️ General Info - PLEASE READ! *Our $450 adoption fee is based on the cost of rescuing, transporting and vetting each dog; we do not try to compete on prices with municipal shelters whose funds are paid by the city. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
