ear-old Miniature Dachshund with a big personality packed into one adorable little body! More than anything, Lilyanne wants her person. She absolutely soaks up attention and affection and will happily follow you from room to room because, in her mind, whatever you're doing is definitely something she should be a part of! If you're looking for a little shadow and devoted companion, Lilyanne may be your girl. Lilyanne gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home, although she isn't shy about voicing her opinion—to her foster family, the other dogs, or sometimes just because she has something to say! We think she would be happiest sharing her home with calm or more submissive canine friends who won't mind her confident little personality. She's a sweet, spunky and pretty fearless girl who seems completely unaware that she's a tiny dog. Lilyanne loves her chew toys, enjoys exploring the backyard, and gets super excited for car rides. She also walks fairly well on a leash and enjoys getting out and about with her people. Lilyanne is mostly housetrained and is also very good about using potty pads. She's a healthy eater and has gained a couple of pounds that she needed when she first arrived. She's now at a great weight, so her new family will want to measure her meals to help keep her trim and healthy. Lilyanne has already had some important medical care while with us. She has been spayed, had an umbilical hernia repaired, and received a dental cleaning. Now she's ready to put all of that behind her and concentrate on the important stuff—finding someone to love and adore for the rest of her life. Because she's a tiny lady with a bold personality, we're looking for a home with children age 10 or older. Lilyanne doesn't ask for much—just a person of her own, plenty of love and attention, some good chew toys, and a spot right beside you. ❤️ If you're looking for a loyal little companion who wants to be involved in every part of your day, Lilyanne is ready to fill that position! I have been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at .furrykidsrefuge/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible. Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
