of play! He is 100% puppy and absolutely embraces it. He loves to wrestle and chase his brother, run around the yard, and explore. He’s wonderful with our young kids and is learning how to channel all of that puppy enthusiasm appropriately. He loves to play, explore, and be involved in whatever his people are doing. Bandit can be a little mouthy when he gets excited—we affectionately call him our little piranha! He can be easily redirected with treats, bones, and toys. Bandit plays hard and crashes even harder. Once he finally accepts that playtime is over, he loves curling up with his brother or settling into your arms. Getting him to agree that playtime is over, however, can be another story—if it were up to Bandit, the fun would never end! He is a curious little explorer who takes great pride in finding sticks and leaves, chewing on his favorite bones, and rolling around in the grass. He is working hard on potty training, doing well with potty pads, and quickly learning that outside is the place to go. Because Bandit loves to play and has so much energy, we think he would thrive in a home with an active, playful canine companion who can keep up with him while also helping him learn appropriate boundaries and doggy manners. He would love having a confident, well-mannered dog to show him the ropes. Bandit is still very much a baby, so his forever family will need to be patient, consistent, and ready for all the hilarious, messy, wonderful parts of puppyhood. In return, they’ll get a goofy, affectionate, adventurous little guy who will keep them laughing—and who will eventually curl up in their arms when his tiny body finally runs out of gas. A securely fenced yard is required so Bandit has a safe place to run, play, explore, and be the spunky little puppy he is. If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: .starfishanimalrescue/adopt/dog-adoption-application . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will be in touch! The adoption fee of $550 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm, and any other necessary medical treatment to ensure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe the breed, since our pups all come from shelters, we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *Please note that we are a foster home-based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
