came to us from a family in rural NE who loved him very much, but had more dogs than they could properly care for and simply couldn’t afford to keep up with everyone’s needs, including their own. Jack had quite a bit to catch up on when he arrived. He needed to be completely shaved down, was treated for parasites, and had a much needed dental cleaning where at least 19 teeth were removed. Jack is still the sweetest, happiest little guy. He is great with dogs of all sizes and tolerates cats. He’s good with kids and is an easygoing, chill boy who just enjoys being with his people. Jack loves car rides, going for walks, cuddling up for a good nap, and soaking up all the attention he can get. Jack is crate trained and has not been destructive in his foster home. He currently wears belly bands because all the exciting doggy smells in his foster home can sometimes inspire him to mark. He seems to be housebroken when visiting other homes, but we recommend using belly bands while he settles into a new home and gets comfortable. If you’re looking for a happy, sweet little companion who is past the puppy chaos, but still ready for plenty of adventures, cuddles and good times, Jack might just be your guy! He will need regular grooming to keep his adorable self looking and feeling his best. He’s neutered, fully vetted and vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption! His adoption donation is $375. Please apply directly in the dropdown menu on our website at havenanimalrescuenebraska PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: havenanimalrescuenebraska/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you. Thank you for choosing adoption!!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
