and always ready to see what’s happening, allow us to introduce you to Gizmo! Gizmo is a 3-month-old terrier mix weighing approximately 10 pounds, and this handsome little guy is basically a walking puppy smile. He has that classic terrier personality—curious, playful, silly, and convinced that absolutely everything deserves further investigation. A toy? Must inspect it. A bone? Definitely needs chewing. Something moving across the room? Obviously requires immediate attention. Gizmo loves to play and enjoys romping around with his canine friends, but he also has a wonderful ability to settle in once the fun is over. When he's ready to recharge, he is happy to hang out with his people and soak up some love. He is currently fostered with SIX other dogs and does wonderfully with his furry roommates. He's a social little guy who enjoys having canine friends around and would love a family ready to keep him engaged with play, toys, enrichment, and plenty of affection. A few things about this handsome little dude: 3 months old and approximately 10 pounds Fostered with SIX dogs and does great with his canine friends Playful, goofy, and curious Loves toys, bones, and puppy shenanigans Sweet and affectionate with his people Has met cats and did well—he's young enough to learn how to live happily with a kitty Can get a little mouthy when excited and playing, but it's typical puppy behavior and never aggressive Still learning his leash skills Sleeps in a pen with an attached crate May give a little puppy protest when first put in his crate or pen, especially if he knows his people are nearby, but settles once he's comfortable House and crate training are coming along, but he's still a puppy and accidents can happen Neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines and preventatives Gizmo is the kind of puppy who will happily join you for some fun, keep you entertained with his goofy antics, and then settle down beside you when he's ready for a break. He's got the adorable terrier charm, a sweet personality, and plenty of puppy years ahead of him to become the amazing dog he's meant to be. If you're ready for puppy kisses, silly antics, toys scattered around the house, and a little four-legged shadow following you around... Gizmo is ready to meet you! Fostered in York, PA And please share! Gizmo's forever family is out there somewhere, and we want to help them find this sweet, goofy boy! Most of our dogs are rescued from high kill shelters in the South. If the dog is posted, they are still available! Once arriving, these dogs enter foster homes, as we do not have a shelter. We cannot adopt out dogs to a home with dogs that are not fixed or up to date on shots. If interested in adopting, please submit an application online at .pack9rescue. Our adoption fee for altered dogs is $350 and goes directly to saving the lives of more dogs. Our adoption fee for unaltered puppies will be $400 which includes a refundable $50 deposit upon receipt of spay/neuter certificate. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
