Adoption Fees:
Puppies, (2 years of age and under) – $400.00 Adult Dog, (3 through 8 years of age) – $350.00 Senior Dogs (9 years and up) – $200.00 Special consideration may be granted for dogs with medical needs or bonded pairs.
Chico – Yellow Male mix, 1 year old, 80 lbs.
We get a lot of Lab mixes in rescue, and most of the time, we have absolutely no idea what the “mix” part might be. But every once in a while, a dog comes along who gives us a pretty strong clue. Chico’s signature double dewclaws on his rear legs are a telltale Great Pyrenees trait, so we’re taking our best guess that this handsome boy is a Labrador/Great Pyrenees mix. And what a wonderful combination!
Meet Chico!
For those unfamiliar with Great Pyrenees, they’re known as gentle giants—and that is exactly what Chico is. At approximately one year old and 80 pounds, Chico is a big, beautiful white Lab mix with an even bigger personality and endless enthusiasm. And boy, is he a stunner! He has the most gorgeous Labrador face, complete with extra-blond highlights around his eyes.
Chico is happy, athletic, goofy, and always ready for whatever adventure comes next. On the energy-level scale, he can be a 3 or a 10, depending on what you have planned that day. Whatever you’re doing, Chico’s answer is, “Count me in!” He doesn’t necessarily need to be the center of attention—he just wants to be included.
One of the great things about dogs this age is that they’re beyond the destructive puppy stage but still young enough to train into the dog of your dreams. Chico doesn’t dig, chew, or destroy. He doesn’t even have much interest in chew toys, although he does enjoy a peanut-butter-filled Kong.
Chico is house-trained, crate-trained, and knows how to sit and lay down—although a premium treat may be required for that last one! He recently graduated to sleeping on a pillow in the bedroom, because he deserves the good life. He loads into and out of the car with ease and settles in beautifully for long drives.
And his leash skills? Absolutely dreamy. Chico walks like a pro, which is a pretty impressive accomplishment because he’s already mastered one of the more challenging parts of training.
Then there are those little things that might seem insignificant but make a foster dog especially easy to live with. Chico doesn’t lift his leg to pee, so your potted plants and patio furniture can breathe a sigh of relief. And when he takes treats, he’s wonderfully gentle—no finger nipping required!
Now, if you really want to see Chico light up, bring out a soccer ball.
Sure, he’ll chase a tennis ball, but bringing it all the way back is apparently negotiable. A soccer ball, however? That’s his sport. We almost renamed him Ronaldo. Chico can dribble, challenge you one-on-one, and work on your footwork all day long. He’s also happy to compete with a bouncy ball to see just how high he can jump. He can’t catch it at the peak of his leap, but he gets a gold medal for enthusiasm and effort!
He hasn’t been tested in the ocean or a swimming pool yet, but our guess is that if you’re doing it, Chico will want to give it a try. He’s that kind of dog.
Chico would do best in a home with another confident, playful dog—big or small—who can match his enthusiasm. He would also be perfectly happy as your one and only dog. However, Chico is not cat-friendly and will need a cat-free home.
Chico is the kind of dog who wants to be part of the action, whether that means a walk around the neighborhood, a game of soccer in the yard, a road trip, or simply hanging out with his people. He’s young, smart, athletic, affectionate, and just plain fun.
