with the nice volunteers, who spend time with and take great care of me—they are so much fun to hang out with! Now I hear that I'm ready to find a wonderful family of my very own, where I can love and be loved furever! I hope to meet them very soon and charm them with my cuteness! I came in heartworm positive, but I'll be treated for that soon, so local adoption please. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts, and though I wasn't quite ready to play, I also didn't show any aggression, so if you have a nice dog at home already, let's meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven't met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let's meet and best no toddlers that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I'm a curious boy with a little pep in my step and a whole lot of sweetness! I’m friendly, loving, and happy, and the volunteers say I'm such a good dog and a little sweetheart. I needed some special baths when I first arrived, and they were pretty scary at first, but the wonderful bathing team helped me feel more comfortable and I was very brave for them. I especially enjoyed being wrapped in a cozy towel afterward and giving kisses! I also loved the ear rubs they gave me and of course soaking up attention from them. / Energy level: 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the 'come', 'leave it', 'drop it' and 'place' commands and I look forward to learning more. Let's continue my training together with the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers for all their adopted dogs. / I'm doing well in my crate at Mostly Mutts. / I've only had a few accidents on the shelter schedule, so hopefully I'll do well in my new home. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love cuddles and kisses, and I enjoy going for walks with the volunteers. Once I’m settled into my new home, I'm sure we’ll discover lots more things we will love to do together! / I can't think of any dislikes, though like all dogs, I'm sure I wouldn't like it if I didn't get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. Sadly, I wasn’t kept on heartworm prevention in my previous home, so I'm heartworm positive. The good news is that I'll be treated for that soon, and Mostly Mutts will cover the cost of that treatment with their vet. I hope to be with my new family before treatment begins! I have moderate tartar on my teeth, so my adoptive family should consult with their vet and consider a dental cleaning in the future. I'm a little sweetheart looking for a wonderful family that will take great care of me and love me forever! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I'm located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
