e to give him a wonderful life. Please love him lots, take care of his spirit and give him space to show how much he appreciates you and loves you. He would do best in a quiet, strucured home with a person or couple who are around most of the day. Here's a bit about our special boy: He is a very sweet dog. He does have trouble deciding who to listen to if he’s in a household of more that one (which he isn’t used to). Link is quiet except if he’s in his crate and he hears odd sounds. Then, he starts with a low guttural growl, almost silent but that builds to a full bark if you don’t hear him. He is always gentle, loving and loves to sit by you, on you, or in close proximity to you. He loves women more than men, as his original home was with a woman who moved into a senior facility. Link does listen, sometimes beautifully, but sometimes, he can be obstinent and play like he doesn’t hear you. He is not particularly a kisser, but if he’s in the mood, you will get an errant lick, his show that he loves you. Link will go into his crate at nighttime without a problem, but sometimes will wake up in the middle of the night growling and barking. Sometimes this is because he heard something or he is having a bad dream. Otherwise, he sleeps quietly, no snoring or sounds. He loves walks, not always welcoming to other dogs or people, but with slow introductions, he will give way to curiosity. Link does not like dry food unless he gets it with something wet. We usually feed him part dry, part canned and a little bone broth to moisten the food. He loves to eat, but does not like eating alone....guessing his owner used to eat at the same time and near him as Link will stop eating if we're not around and home sit by us. He is also good at letting you know he has to go potty or he wants to go for a walk. A few times, when we weren't paying attention, he jumps on your lap and looks at you as if to say; "Hey, I am trying to tell you I want to go out!" We give him treats after he has gone outside and pottied. He listens enough to know that when you say (he has a bed in the livingroom) "Get in your bed," he will go into the living room bed. At bedtime, he has been, lately, very good at going into his crate.Once you settle down to sleep, he will too. When you go out, and put him in the crate, and come back home, he cries and barks because he's happy you are back. He stops barking when you let him out of the crate. As I said before, Linc loves to cuddle near you but will also sleep on his living room bed. And when you take him out, he will take you to where he wants to pee or poop. He seems to love car wheels to pee on. Written by his foster THIS IS ABOUT LINK, OR LINCOLN” to the tune of (Runaround Sue) Here’s his story, it’s sad but true, It’s about a love that he once knew. He had a place where he was safe, But the lady who loved him couldn’t save his place So, he landed here at Judy’s place Being little was his saving grace. Those who adopt usually like dogs small, They like them sweet, and come when called. As a doster, as a dog left bereft, They weren’t sure if he had anything left. A foster home was the place to live He still had so much love to give. So see him, take a look at that face, He needs a place that so wonderfully safe. I ask you, could you love him enough He’s so much more than just the regular fluff. Little Lincoln’s the win, with a favorite grin.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
