innie is a sweet little girl with a playful spirit and a heart that blooms once she knows she is safe. This 1-year-old, 18-pound Jack Russell mix enjoys zooming around the yard, playing chase with her canine foster brother, and finding leaves and sticks for a little entertainment. She may not be much of a toy enthusiast, but she is definitely a fan of belly rubs! One of Minnie’s cutest routines is jumping onto the bed, rolling over, and patiently waiting for someone to rub her tummy. She is also perfectly happy curling up quietly on her own until her person comes looking for her. Once she gets comfortable with you, Minnie is very loving and enjoys attention. She knows her name and reliably comes when called, and her love of treats should make learning new skills a fun adventure. Minnie is still learning some of the basics of being a house dog. She has used potty pads and is making progress with consistent praise and treats. She is also learning that her crate can be a cozy place to relax and has started voluntarily going inside, even sleeping there with the door open. She has not been destructive when given a little extra room. Minnie can be timid around quick hand movements and prefers to keep all four paws on the ground rather than being picked up. A patient person who lets her build trust at her own pace will get to see her affectionate personality shine. She has enjoyed having a friendly foster dog to play with and would likely appreciate a gentle canine companion who respects her space. Minnie is looking for someone who will continue her potty training, introduce her to leash walks, and give her plenty of patience, playtime, and affection. If you think this sweet girl might be your perfect match, reach out to A.A.R.F. by text at 931-260-8018 or visit .aarf-tn to start the application. Meet this dog at Petco on Saturday, Sept 5th from 1-4 pm CST at Petco, 377 W. Jackson St #11 Cookeville, TN 38501. Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
